Devil May Cry series pays tribute to star Kevin Conroy after his death, aged 66

In my humble opinion, Netflix’s latest animated offering, Devil May Cry, serves as a heartfelt homage to the late and great Kevin Conroy. As a movie reviewer, I found this tribute particularly poignant and well-executed.

In reference to the game titled “Devil May Cry”, which shares its name with the series, it includes a posthumous performance by Kevin Conroy, who passed away in 2022.

At the end of each episode, a small tribute reads: “In memory of Kevin Conroy (1955-2022)”.

The actor gained fame primarily for lending his voice to Batman across various DC productions such as Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, and Justice League.

Apart from his roles released posthumously, he lent his voice to Batman in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, MultiVersus, and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Episode Three.

The series was filmed prior to Conroy’s death, and the show’s creator, Adi Shankar, stated on X (previously known as Twitter) that “No artificial intelligence was used. Mr. Conroy delivered an exceptionally nuanced performance. It was a privilege and an honor to collaborate with him.

In a tribute, Johnny Yong Bosch, the voice of Dante, acknowledged it as a privilege to collaborate with Kevin Conroy on the forthcoming DMC series.

Simply incredible! Watching Batman: The Animated Series transformed my perception of cartoons. Just so you know, our recording sessions were conducted some years back – it’s important to understand that producing animations can be a lengthy process.

The eight-episode show, labeled by Netflix as both imaginative and thrilling, focuses on a mercenary demon hunter encountering a malevolent entity from another realm, while also grappling with his own troubled history.

In simpler terms, according to Netflix, the storyline revolves around a charming demon hunter who might be our only chance at saving the world from an unknown villain attempting to unleash the horrors of Hell.
