Devil May Cry showrunner teases big season 2 pivot: “Essentially a new show”

Audience members frequently express their appreciation for the series’ focus on the character of Dante and the fashionable depiction of the demons he battles.

In an interview with Esquire, Shankar expressed that the first season mirrored his own perspective on the world as it was in the year 2001.

In simpler terms, he said that Season 1 explores the idea that everyone has experienced a loss in their childhood, and throughout our lives, we’re either searching for what was lost, attempting to recover it, or dealing with the healing process related to it.

Shankar admitted that his strategy for Season 1 of Devil May Cry was to create an enticing introduction, drawing viewers in and immersing them in the universe. For Season 2, though, he intends to shift gears.

The narrative direction for the second season will change significantly compared to the first. Stylistically and tonally, it will be distinctly different. The character of Virgil plays a significant role; in essence, we can consider it a new show.

For devoted followers of the series, it’s no secret that Virgil holds great importance as a character, and some viewers might have a good idea of his role in the upcoming season 2.

It’s not at all unexpected that Shankar’s ideas for the character might take us by surprise, given his insightful remarks.

Shankar also shared that he had serious goals- namely to “body” Arcane and surpass its viewership.

“The Joker setting money ablaze is mysterious, and it’s fantastic. I aim to surpass this with season 2 of Devil May Cry. Arrive at a tank battle with a water balloon and demolish the tank. That’s just awesome!

Luckily, you won’t have to wait much longer for the new season. Although an official release date hasn’t been announced yet, we can be certain that it’s on its way, as Netflix confirmed it through their social media platforms back in April.
