Devin Harjes, Boardwalk Empire Alum, Dead at 41 After Cancer Battle

The acting community is in mourning.

Devin Harjes, who starred on shows such as Boardwalk Empire and Manifest, has died. He was 41.

On May 27, the actor sadly lost his life in a New York City hospital due to cancer-related issues, just a few months following his diagnosis. His representative subsequently verified this news to NBC News.

In a statement released on June 1st, it was noted that he was an artist of unwavering dedication, always giving his absolute best in every role he took up. Personally, he was known for his generosity, kindness, compassion, and deep devotion to his loved ones. He was an exceptional horseback rider and had a unique ability to connect with all creatures.

Harjes hailed from the sprawling landscapes of West Texas, where he was nurtured from infancy. As his obituary recounts, he made his debut just three days after birth, cradled by his father on horseback alongside his sister, establishing an early affinity with animals and the spirit of the rodeo. This unusual connection to the world of livestock and the rodeo scene ultimately proved to be a serendipitous starting point for a fulfilling career in the performing arts.

After studying acting at college, Harjes embarked on his career within the Dallas–Fort Worth theatre community, appearing in plays like “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest“. Not long after, he transitioned to New York City, where he showcased his talent in off-Broadway productions and indie films.

In 2011, he first appeared on television as Jack Dempsey in “Boardwalk Empire.” Since then, this actor has been seen on various shows including “Blue Bloods,” “Orange Is the New Black,” “Gotham,” “Daredevil” and “Elementary.” His latest and most significant role, obtained in 2020, was that of Pete Baylor on the series “Manifest.

In addition to my acting pursuits, I, as a lifestyle enthusiast, might rephrase it this way: Beyond the silver screen, I took my passion for fitness and self-defense quite seriously. Regularly found at the gym, I was also deeply committed to martial arts. I often joked that it was less risky than receiving a kick from a horse!

The actor is left behind by his parents Randy Harjes and Rosanne Harjes, his sister Trish Harjes, his former spouse Shiva Shobitha, and other cherished individuals.

In the obituary, it was stated that Devin realized his dream with passion and determination. He breathed life into characters, encouraged those around him, and never failed to bring joy through laughter. His absence is keenly felt by his family, friends, and beloved cat Maude.
