Devon Sawa Says He’d “Bet the House” We’ll Get More Chucky

The popular killer doll Chucky isn’t going away anytime soon, even though its TV series has been cancelled after three seasons. Actor Devon Sawa, who played various characters throughout the show, remains hopeful about the franchise’s future and spoke optimistically to Forbes while promoting his new slasher movie, “Heart Eyes.” The long-time horror star believes that Chucky will make a comeback due to its strong merchandising potential. Sawa expressed his eagerness to continue being part of the series but admitted uncertainty about his role in future productions because of changes within the production team. Clearly, Devon Sawa is passionate about this project and considers it among his proudest work.

Sawa boldly stated, ‘If I were in Vegas, I’d put all my chips on the table that you’ll encounter more Chucky material.’ Given its popularity, as seen in the sales of t-shirts, cereal boxes, and lunch boxes, we can expect more Chucky content to emerge.

Sawa’s self-assurance appears to be justified. In truth, franchise creator Don Mancini had been planning a new film project for the series even before it was cancelled by SYFY and USA Network due to budget issues. As a matter of fact, in March 2024, Mancini confirmed he was “in the initial stages of developing a new Chucky movie,” while also focusing on other projects.

The upcoming “Chucky” movie, set to be its first theatrical release since “Cult of Chucky” in 2017, is still in its early stages of production without a confirmed 2025 release date. Few details about the plot have been shared, but creator Don Mancini hints that the film will complement the series while also maintaining its unique identity.

Sawa expresses a desire to reappear in future seasons, yet understands that it may not be certain.

He expressed to Forbes, ‘Will I be part of it? I’m optimistic. I haven’t received any clear answer yet.’ He added, ‘There seems to be a transition in producers and other roles. I’m not privy to all the details. I can only hope and pray that I return, as this project, alongside Final Destination, Idle Hands, and the Stan video, are ones I hold dear and am proud of.’

The show concluded with an intense suspense, leaving the primary personas confined within marionette doll forms as Chucky and Tiffany continued their escape. Although it appeared that a fourth installment was imminent, viewers might have to wait for upcoming movie ventures to find out the conclusion.

Mancini hasn’t dismissed the idea of daring moves for the franchise, such as collaborations. According to USA Today, the creator is considering teaming up Chucky with other horror legends, like Freddy Krueger, or introducing newer characters such as Annabelle or M3GAN.
