As a die-hard fan of Dexter with close to two decades of obsession under my belt, I can confidently say that I have seen it all – from Dexter’s dark past to his twisted present. When I watched episode 2 of Dexter: Original Sin titled Kid in a Candy Store, I was immediately drawn to a mysterious character who shared an uncanny resemblance with Christian Camargo, the actor who played Brian Moser, aka The Ice Truck Killer from the original series.
Fans of the show “Dexter” believe that one of the iconic villains from the original series subtly appeared in a recent episode of the current spin-off, “Original Sin”. The series “Dexter”, with its rich history and massive popularity, has been on air for close to two decades. It’s maintained its appeal due to its gripping drama, mesmerizing performances, and villains portrayed by actors such as John Lithgow and Clancy Brown. This show is a legendary piece of television, boasting ten seasons spread across three shows and another sequel series called “Dexter: Resurrection”, set for release next year. In the interim, fans can enjoy a new prequel titled “Dexter: Original Sin”.
In the latest series, “Dexter” is set in the past, before he ever spilled his first drop of blood and at the beginning of his career with Miami Metro. This means Dexter hasn’t met any of his infamous villains yet, and won’t have the chance for another 15 years or so. The new show, Dexter: Original Sin, seems to have a new antagonist as its main character, but their true identity is still unknown. However, some fans of Dexter: Original Sin on Reddit speculate that one of Dexter’s most formidable foes might already have made an appearance in the show.
Dexter: Original Sin – Brian Moser AKA The Ice Truck Killer Cameo Explained
In episode 2 of “Dexter: Original Sin,” entitled “A Gourmet’s Delight” (a more casual and engaging title), Dexter dines out with Masuka, Batista, and Watt at a restaurant. Dexter manages to secure a table for the quartet. While waiting, an unfamiliar individual approaches and inquires if the seat opposite Dexter is free. Dexter politely declines, stating he’s saving it for his companions, causing the stranger to depart. This scene subtly communicates that Dexter is fitting in socially and has friends, which may be a novel experience for him throughout his life. Nonetheless, viewers have another theory: they speculate this mysterious man could be Brian Moser, also known as The Ice Truck Killer from the initial season of “Dexter.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’ve noticed an intriguing likeness between this character and a younger Christian Camargo, who played Brian Moser in Dexter. The resemblance extends to their hairstyle and wardrobe, reminiscent of Moser’s attire at the end of Dexter season one. Interestingly, the actor, Roby Attal, isn’t listed as an extra on IMDb, which has led some fans to speculate that his character’s true identity might be concealed. To add fuel to the fire, Patrick Gibson (Dexter), Molly Brown (Deb Morgan), Alex Shimizu (Vince Masuka), and Reno Wilson (Bobby Watt) all follow Attal on Instagram. This connection has sparked curiosity among fans about the possible role that Attal might be playing in the new Dexter series.
It’s rather unexpected that numerous cast members would associate with someone they probably didn’t interact much with in the show, if Attal was merely an extra. However, it’s possible they are friends outside of Dexter: Original Sin. Nevertheless, this is another point adding to the theory’s credibility. At the moment, this is our main evidence for the Dexter theory, but it’s intriguing. Keep in mind that Dexter: Original Sin has a history of Easter eggs linking back to the original series, so it’s not entirely implausible.
If the appearance is genuine, we might learn more about it as the season progresses. The brief appearance of Brian Moser is so significant that it would seem unusual if there’s no further development on this character if indeed it is Brian Moser. Although Brian does show up in Dexter’s childhood flashbacks, at this point in Original Sin, Dexter is unaware he even had a brother. For him, it’s all hazy and there are many years to go before Dexter discovers the truth. It appears unlikely that Dexter and his brother will meet directly, but maybe Brian could find other means to reach out to him instead.
It’s intriguing since this situation stirs up numerous queries. For how long has Brian been aware of Dexter’s whereabouts following their mother’s demise? Since the initial series suggested that Brian was institutionalized, he probably spent most of his childhood in a facility, but as an adult, he could have had around 20 years to locate Dexter. If this indeed is Brian Moser, many possibilities arise; however, it might just be a huge coincidence. Could the antagonist of Original Sin be Brian Moser once more, merely at an earlier and less skilled phase of his life? Is he attempting to convey a message about himself by hurting a child? The answers remain elusive!
In a different phrasing, the series “Dexter: Original Sin” delves into events beyond what Dexter recalls, including flashbacks that offer significant new insights from Harry’s point of view. Furthermore, it offers glimpses into the future by depicting how Dexter managed to survive after the ending of “New Blood“.
