As a die-hard Dexter fan who has followed this darkly intriguing series since its inception, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming prequel, “Dexter: Original Sin.” The return of Michael C. Hall’s voiceover and the introduction of Patrick Gibson as young Dexter are just the tip of the iceberg.
Showtime has released a trailer for Dexter: Original Sin, providing fans not just with a first look at some new footage from the prequel series, but also a release date, revealing that America’s favorite serial killer will be back in action in time for the holidays. Patrick Gibson will star as the killer in the series, with original Dexter star Michael C. Hall returning to provide voiceover in a How I Met Your Mother kind of way. Series creator Clyde Phillips returns as showrunner for the series, which is set to run for 10 episodes on Paramount+ and Showtime.
The show features Gibson and Christian Slater, who plays Dexter’s father, sparking his fascination with violent matters. Additionally, Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, and Sarah Michelle Gellar appear in the series, with the latter in a special guest role. After the final episode of Dexter aired in 2013, there has been little downtime for the franchise. Speculations about a reunion, revival, or film began almost right away, and culminated with Dexter: New Blood in 2021. Besides the prequel series Original Sin, the Dexter universe will continue through Dexter: Resurrection, a new show that follows after New Blood and features Hall. Additionally, there are rumors of more episodes for New Blood, focusing on Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan as he grapples with the question of whether to follow in his father’s footsteps. What is Dexter: Original Sin about?
1991 finds us in Miami, where the story of Dexter: Original Sin unfolds. The series focuses on Dexter (Gibson), moving from student life to that of an avenging serial killer. As his bloodlust becomes too strong to ignore, Dexter embarks on a journey to harness his inner darkness. With the mentorship of his father, Harry (Slater), he develops a Code to help him track and eliminate individuals who should be removed from society without drawing unwanted attention from law enforcement. This proves quite difficult for Dexter as he starts his forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
As a gamer, I’m super excited about diving into the world of “Dexter: Original Sin,” a production I can’t wait to explore thanks to the brilliant mind of showrunner Clyde Phillips, known for his work on “Dexter” and “Nurse Jackie.” This thrilling series is brought to us by SHOWTIME Studios and Counterpart Studios. Notably, Scott Reynolds, who has worked on “Jessica Jones,” and the original Dexter himself, Michael C. Hall, are also executive producers.
Dexter: Original Sin is set to debut on December 13th.
