Dexter: Original Sin to Air Two Episodes This Week (But There’s a Catch)

As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for dark and twisty tales, I must say that I am thoroughly excited about the upcoming episodes of Dexter: Original Sin. Having grown up on the original series, it’s intriguing to delve back into Dexter Morgan’s origin story, especially with the return of Michael C. Hall as our favorite serial killer.

This week, there will be two fresh episodes added to the Dexter: Original Sin series, but keep in mind that it’ll mean parting with some cash if you want to watch. As the year draws to a close, many streaming platforms and networks are unveiling their top shows to provide viewers with entertainment as they brave the cold weather. Disney+ is bringing back the animated Marvel series, What If?, and another Star Wars spin-off titled Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. After wrapping up its fifth season, Yellowstone has ended, and now Paramount’s other prominent show, Dexter, is making a comeback in the form of a prequel series titled Dexter: Original Sin. The first episode premiered last week on Paramount+ and Showtime, receiving positive feedback from fans across social media.

In “Dexter: Original Sin,” viewers are taken back to the early stages of Dexter Morgan’s life, immediately following his college graduation and just before his initial act of bloodshed. This gripping reinterpretation is narrated by the original Dexter actor, Michael C. Hall, who makes a brief appearance in the story’s opening for “Original Sin.” The narrative also delves into how Dexter Morgan miraculously survived a close-range gunshot wound, allowing him to reappear in a forthcoming sequel series called “Dexter: Resurrection.” Production on this continuation is set to commence during the first week of January for a projected release in June 2025, as indicated by showrunner Clyde Phillips.

Dexter: Original Sin Episodes 2 and 3 Get Surprise Release Date

Fans of Dexter: Original Sin are getting a double dose of excitement! Following the successful debut of the pilot, it’s been confirmed that two episodes will premiere on Friday night at 12AM ET exclusively on Paramount+. The second and third episodes, named “Kid in a Candy Store” and “Miami Vice”, respectively, will be accessible for an early weekend binge on the streaming platform and will air consecutively live on Showtime’s cable channel on Sunday, December 22nd at 10PM and 10:47 PM ET.

However, there’s a catch. Dexter: Original Sin will have a one week hiatus starting Friday, January 17th. It’s not exactly clear what the reason for this hiatus is, but it may be done to allow more post-production time on a future episode or as a way to drum up more buzz on social media with two episodes. With people getting some time off for the holidays soon, having more episodes available and time to build hype before folks are cozied up on the couch would be a smart strategy. Regardless, Original Sin will run for ten episodes with its season finale scheduled to air on Valentine’s Day 2025.

Fans of Dexter will have a wait of around four months before they can see the continuation of the series, titled Dexter: Resurrection. At this point, details about the sequel are scarce, but there’s a reliable rumor suggesting that it will take place in New York City and bring back significant characters like Dexter’s son, Harrison, and his foster father, Harry. There is speculation about whether James Remar will reprise his role or if Christian Slater from the series Original Sin will step in to maintain consistency across various versions of the show.

Beyond that, it’s been rumored that Dexter: Resurrection will introduce Peter Dinklage and Uma Thurman as the series’ main adversaries. Details about their characters are scarce at this point, but with production ramping up in the coming weeks, we might learn more about the cast in the near future.

It’s quite possible that the upcoming show, Dexter: Resurrection, will be shrouded in a lot of mystery, much like its predecessor, due to potential surprise appearances by well-known actors such as John Lithgow and Jennifer Carpenter. Unfortunately, some people couldn’t keep their mouths shut, revealing secrets months before the initial airing of Dexter: New Blood. Therefore, it seems that Showtime might be more vigilant about maintaining secrecy for this new series.
