Dexter: Original Sin Trailer Teases How Dexter Is Alive

As a die-hard fan who’s followed Dexter’s twisted tale since its inception, I can hardly contain my excitement as we delve deeper into the mind of the Bay Harbor Butcher! The latest trailer for “Dexter: Original Sin” promises to unravel the enigmatic origins of our favorite serial killer, and if that isn’t enough to get your blood boiling, Dexter himself (or at least a version of him) is back from the dead!

A fresh trailer has been released for “Dexter: Original Sin,” hinting at Dexter Morgan’s survival. This Showtime series, first aired in 2006, is still capturing attention nearly 20 years later. Initially, it caused a stir in the late 2000s due to its unconventional themes, drawing viewers into the mind of a serial killer and, in some ways, making them accomplices by encouraging their support. Michael C. Hall received widespread acclaim for his portrayal of the charming yet ruthless serial killer, with many citing his performance as a key factor that kept the series engaging, even during its less successful periods.

Following an eight-year span, the popular show “Dexter” ended in 2013, but hinted at potential future episodes if a compelling concept surfaced. Unsurprisingly, this came to fruition in 2021 with “Dexter: New Blood,” a continuation featuring Michael C. Hall reprising his role. Set a decade later, Dexter was residing under a new identity in snowy upstate New York, leading a peaceful existence free of murder. However, his tranquility was disrupted when his long-lost son located him and exhibited ominous tendencies reminiscent of Dexter’s own dark impulses. Sadly, Dexter met his end in “New Blood”… or so it seemed.

In a remarkable turn of events, the series Dexter: New Blood garnered such high viewership that Showtime and Paramount concocted a strategy to prolong the Dexter franchise. This plan has led to the birth of a prequel titled Dexter: Original Sin, set to debut soon. Interestingly, while Original Sin is predominantly set in the 1990s, it seems it will also carry forward elements of Dexter’s current storyline. In a freshly unveiled trailer, we witness present-day Dexter Morgan lying critically wounded in the snow, only to be followed by scenes of him being rushed to the hospital and receiving medical attention. Despite being shot in the chest, possibly in the heart, it appears that Dexter will survive this ordeal.

This year, it’s been made official that Dexter is coming back for a new sequel series titled “Dexter: Resurrection“. The series will continue from where “New Blood” ended, suggesting that Dexter still exists. Details about the show are scarce, but it’s hinted that the cold weather could have been instrumental in keeping the Bay Harbor Butcher alive. There are rumors swirling around about potential cast members for “Dexter: Resurrection“, with Peter Dinklage and Gillian Anderson being mentioned, although their roles haven’t been specified yet.

It seems that the prequel series for Original Sin could employ the current-day Dexter character as a narrative framework, with scenes potentially unfolding through his memories. The latest trailer suggests that Dexter might be reliving key moments from his past, raising the possibility that we’ll witness the prequel in this manner. It remains uncertain how much Michael C. Hall will appear in Original Sin, but he does make an appearance and is also set to narrate the entire series.

Actor Patrick Gibson takes on the role of Dexter Morgan during his youthful years, filling gaps in the timeline between when Dexter graduated from school and started working at Miami Metro. While the original show had flashbacks revealing parts of Dexter’s past, we might now see many of the bodies depicted as blood slides in the initial stages of the series. This spin-off titled Dexter: Original Sin is set to debut on December 13th on Paramount+, while another revival called Dexter: Resurrection is scheduled for 2025 and hasn’t started filming yet.
