The filming of “Dexter: Resurrection” has begun, although there’s no word yet on whether a significant character from the original series will reappear. “Dexter,” a series known for its intense violence and dark themes, follows a serial killer who hunts other killers, only taking lives that meet certain moral criteria. The show features some of the most gruesome scenes imaginable, including people being chainsawed and women being hunted in the wilderness. Despite this, it boasts a strong, endearing ensemble cast. While “Dexter” is named after its main character, the show wouldn’t be the same without its supporting players.

The series skillfully employs its cast to introduce humor amidst the heavy themes, while also introducing other types of drama outside of the violence. This aspect is one of the show’s most powerful elements. Dexter: New Blood, however, deviated from the initial cast due to Dexter’s staged death, which prevented previous characters from having larger roles. At the conclusion of the series, Dexter’s secret was exposed. Now that everyone knows he’s a serial killer, it appears that upcoming conflicts in the Dexter: Resurrection spin-off, set to release in June 2025 and starring Michael C. Hall, will be intriguing.

At this point, not much information has been revealed about the upcoming series, except that Dexter will be found in a hospital recovering from the serious gunshot wound he sustained at the end of “New Blood”. Showtime has made it clear that Angel Batista, Harry Morgan, and Harrison Morgan will all reappear in “Dexter: Resurrection”, meaning we can expect to see more beloved characters from the original series than we did in “New Blood”. Interestingly, Harry was not present in the previous show, while Angel had a small role that hinted at a possible encounter between him and Dexter. However, there’s one crucial character whose presence is essential for “Dexter: Resurrection”.

It’s highly recommended that the revival series, Dexter: Resurrection, reintroduce Joey Quinn, a cherished character from the initial show. Played by Desmond Harrington, Quinn entered the scene in season 3 as a replacement for Doakes and swiftly won over fans with his charisma. Unlike his fellow officers, Quinn had a more questionable edge to him, making him intriguing due to his willingness to bend the rules, both for personal gain and to seek justice. Similar to Doakes, Quinn harbored suspicions about Dexter and even conducted secret investigations into his possible involvement in Rita’s death.

In essence, he never got as close to uncovering the truth like Doakes did, instead opting to step back significantly. While some viewers speculate that Quinn knew about Dexter’s hidden darkness and chose to overlook it due to admiration, a more plausible explanation is that his relationship with Deb, Dexter’s sister, caused him to soften his approach. Despite their eventual split, their romantic feelings for each other persisted until the series finale, leaving Quinn heartbroken upon Deb’s demise.

Following the apprehension of Deb’s murderer, Oliver Saxon, by the police, Dexter secretly entered Saxon’s cell, pretending to be there for forensic work. However, instead, he took Saxon’s life in full view of surveillance cameras. Quinn and Batista scrutinized the footage, with Quinn later arguing it was “self-defense,” implying that they were fully aware Dexter had gone in seeking revenge. Seeming to share the same motive, Quinn released Dexter without question.

Given that Dexter’s secret has been exposed and Batista is investigating, this moment seems ideal for reintroducing Quinn. Not only does he add humor and intelligence to the storyline, but the tension generated by his awareness of Dexter’s secret would lead to captivating narrative developments. The combination of Quinn and Batista in a manhunt in New York City, as hinted in Dexter: Resurrection, would escalate the stakes for Dexter significantly. This could force him into a situation where he must contemplate harming two allies, forcing him to confront the consequences of his actions directly.

Apart from merely collaborating, Quinn and Batista have strong reasons for pursuing Dexter. If Quinn discovers that Dexter is linked to Saxon, he might hold Dexter accountable for Deb’s death. Moreover, although it was not him who pulled the trigger, Dexter played a significant role in LaGuerta’s demise. Since Batista was married to her, he may experience intense sorrow and anger upon learning the truth about her death. In the series “Dexter: New Blood”, a showdown between Angel and Dexter has already been established.

In addition, it’s clear that Quinn demonstrates an extraordinary level of determination as a detective, particularly when matters become deeply personal. There’s a strong possibility that he might bend or even break the rules to apprehend Dexter, or engage in actions that raise moral doubts, in order to get to him. He would make an excellent counterpart for Dexter in Dexter: Resurrection, but it remains to be seen if Showtime will choose to reintroduce his character.
