Dexter: Resurrection Teases Return of Iconic Ritual Absent Since Season 7

In the latest snapshot from “Dexter: Resurrection“, there’s a hint that one of Dexter’s distinctive hallmarks could be making a comeback. The absence of any iconic element in “Dexter” would certainly stand out. Music, vibrant characters, and of course, Dexter’s unique routines are all crucial components that make this show special. The Showtime production meticulously preserved these elements throughout its eight-season run and even tried to recreate the magic with the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin”. Although it features a new cast, some sets, music, and overall atmosphere closely resemble the original series.

In contrast to the limited revival series titled “Dexter: New Blood”, which aimed to be significantly different from its original format, there were several elements that felt unfamiliar. Despite some remnants of the past, the show was intentionally designed to be a fresh take on the series. This shift didn’t necessarily make “Dexter: New Blood” a poor production, but it did leave some fans feeling disappointed. The new setting, predominantly new characters, and altered story structure were notable changes. There were only a few kill scenes in “New Blood”, and most of them deviated from Dexter’s usual killing methodology. However, it appears that the upcoming sequel series “Dexter: Resurrection” might revert back to the original format.

Dexter: Resurrection Will Feature Dexter’s Blood Slides

A fresh photo shared by Scott Reynolds, producer and writer of ‘Dexter: Resurrection’, reveals the props department meticulously crafting blood smears on the show’s set – a gruesome yet signature aspect of the series. Known as blood slides, these are small glass tablets where Dexter, before killing someone, would make a shallow cut on their cheek and collect their blood. These slides were then stored in a box, functioning as macabre mementos for Dexter to recall each victim he had taken. However, due to the dangerous consequences that ensued when one slide broke in Season 7, causing Dexter to almost get caught, he decided to destroy his entire collection.

In the opening of “Dexter: New Blood,” I found myself slipping back into my old ways after a ten-year hiatus from murder. I had to fashion a makeshift killing chamber and even took a smear of my victim’s blood on a shard of glass – a grim keepsake I no longer wish to accumulate in the future. However, I acknowledged that I was transforming into something more monstrous and decided to leave such mementos behind. So, what prompted this change in attitude for Dexter in “Dexter: Resurrection”?

It’s quite plausible that the bloody slides in this photo aren’t Dexter’s. They might belong to an imitator or even Harrison, who seems to be taking after him. The sloppy nature of these blood slides suggests a lack of expertise, but it could also mean they’re still works-in-progress from the prop department and not the ones intended for the final scene.

Currently, we’re mostly in the dark regarding the details of this series. However, an interview with Michael C. Hall has shed light on the fact that Dexter: Resurrection is set to offer a fresh start and a second opportunity for the franchise. It appears that those involved with the show are determined to make this new season a success, following the controversial ending of the initial series and the divisive nature of New Blood. Whether they manage to pull it off remains uncertain, but it’s clear that everyone is putting their best efforts into the project.

Additionally, the fact that Dexter: Resurrection is intended for multiple seasons contrasts with New Blood, which only had one season. This suggests that there’s a prolonged dedication to this series, implying a more leisurely pace and less urgency to provide it with a conclusive ending.

The revival of “Dexter: Resurrection” is scheduled for June. Are you looking forward to the upcoming series? Feel free to share your thoughts below.
