Diablo 4 roadmap re-confirms an expansion for 2026, and it sure looks like there’ll be a new class too

On Tuesday, Blizzard Entertainment’s development team unveiled a timeline for Diablo 4, providing players with a glimpse of what features to anticipate in the action-RPG throughout this year and up until 2026.

According to Xbox Wire, some permanent updates coming to the game in 2025 will feature new lair bosses, console compatibility with keyboard and mouse, additional Nightmare Dungeon tasks, and other enhancements.

Beyond the regular seasonal tasks, there will be new quests to accomplish and creatures to acquire as rewards. To mark the approaching second anniversary of Diablo 4 in June, the developer has something special planned, and we can expect two collaborations with other intellectual properties soon.

As an onlooker, it appears that these upcoming collaborations are specifically designed to align with the ominous tones and aesthetics of Diablo. For a comprehensive overview of the Diablo 4 timeline in 2025, take a look at the detailed roadmap provided below:

In the last part, it hints at a future expansion in 2026. However, some text at the base appears obscured by fire, which to me and my colleague Jennifer Young, seems to suggest or allude to “New Class.

Indeed, it’s quite surprising if the upcoming expansion doesn’t introduce a new class. The Spiritborn class was added with 2024’s Vessel of Hatred. Will this be the long-awaited Paladin that players are eagerly anticipating, or does Blizzard have another idea up their sleeve? We’ll just have to wait and see.

I’m equally eager to find out about the upcoming collaborations. Are they likely to involve Xbox’s own exclusive franchises, or could there possibly be collaborations with external partners as well?

Initially planned for an additional expansion by the end of this year, Diablo 4 has instead been delayed. This change is due to Blizzard modifying their live service strategies to more effectively address player feedback.

In my observation of the Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred review, I, along with Jennifer Young, noted that the development team has constructed a formidable foundation for expanding the Mephisto storyline. Here’s to hoping they remain receptive to feedback as they have shown some progress in this area so far.

Right now, you can play Diablo 4 on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, as well as Windows PCs using Steam or Battle.net. It’s also compatible with PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Additionally, it’s available for those who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass.
