Did One Piece Just Reveal Nika’s Secret 26 Years in the Making?

The popular manga “One Piece” is renowned for its intricate mysteries and hints that build up over time. Created by Eiichiro Oda, this story started publishing in 1997’s Weekly Shonen Jump, and has now reached its final stage, the Final Saga. For nearly 28 years and more than 1100 chapters, the narrative has been carefully preparing for its climactic ending, with themes revolving around the world’s greatest enigma and Nika, the Sun God at the heart of it all. The story opens with a young pirate embarking on a voyage in search of an iconic treasure and aiming to become the Pirate King.

On his voyage and recruiting team members, he encounters the hazards of the treacherous ocean. Throughout their island-hopping adventures, the manga gradually reveals that events unfolding worldwide are connected to the Void Century. Luffy’s Gear 5 isn’t just a power boost but showcases the story’s themes and background. Since the East Blue Saga, Luffy has been a savior for people, which aligns perfectly with his character. Yet, Oda’s introduction of Nika in the Wano Country Saga through Luffy’s transformation isn’t an accident.

1998 was the year when Oda sketched the dream of a lion (Richie) under the crescent moon.

In his dream, he transformed into a pirate and, armed with his shield bearing the sun symbol and sword, he prepared to confront the legendary monster found on the fresco…

One Piece Chapter 59 Cover Foreshadowed Nika

The popular manga “One Piece” frequently incorporates standalone tales to delve into the escapades of minor characters. The inaugural cover story was titled “Buggy’s Crew Adventure Chronicles,” chronicling Buggy and his team after their defeat at the hands of Luffy, Zoro, and Nami. This narrative unfolded on the covers of Chapters 35 through 75. In Chapter 58, published in September 1998, Mohji and Cabaji are seen engaged in combat, while Mohji’s lion, Richie, is dreaming about commanding his own pirate gang.

In October 1998, Chapter 59 of One Piece saw Richie pursuing his dream as he battled a dragon-like creature in his dreams. In actuality, within this fantasy, Richie defeated Moji and Cabaji. While dreaming, he imagined himself adorned with a cape, shield, and sword, confronting a foe strikingly reminiscent of the one depicted in Chapter 1138’s mural. The surroundings were ablaze, mirroring the mural’s depiction of fire in various areas.

A lion is frequently employed to symbolize justice, strength, and courage in various cultures. Often, a lion is also used as an emblem of the sun. Thus, it’s not surprising that Oda modeled Richie after a lion for his foreshadowing. When this chapter was released, the world had no idea about the Void Century, Poneglyphs, Joyboy, or Nika. Yet, these cover images suggest that Oda has been meticulously plotting the story from the very beginning.

Who Is Sun God Nika in One Piece?

There’s a great deal we don’t know about Nika, but what we do know paints him as a legendary warrior who was considered a Sun God by enslaved people from ancient times. He fought for their freedom while dancing and laughing. In Chapter 1069, Vegapunk hinted that Nika’s existence is only mentioned in some of the old texts. After the formation of the World Government, they erased all traces of Nika from contemporary records, along with other historical facts.

Through the tales handed down from one generation to the next, the legend of the Sun God has been preserved among both the Giant and Pirate clans. Regrettably, the Pirates were driven to extinction, with Kuma being the lone survivor – though he carries only half Pirate blood, as his mother was a human. In stark contrast, the Giants have endured throughout the ages, residing in a secluded realm known as Elbaf. The latest installment of “One Piece,” Chapter 1136, unveils that Nika lived during an epoch prior to Joyboy’s reign. This enigmatic figure played a pivotal role during that time.

The Giants possess an old manuscript named Harley, which contains the tale of Nika and encompasses the chronicles of world history. Since the text is penned in an ancient dialect, there have been varied interpretations of the Liberator Warrior. Some perceive Nika as a monarch, while others depict him as a devastator. Nika is also revered as the deity of mirth or freedom.

Furthermore, Luffy and Joyboy share a power similar to that of Nika, which is likely due to the devil fruit that emerged from human desires. Nika manifests when significant changes are imminent in the world; it was destroyed during both the eras of Nika and Joyboy. In this present time, Nika has made its third appearance as the Great War is on the horizon.
