In our previous encounter, the team was venturing into the primary Infinity game, leaving Daly’s personal server behind. However, what became of them as they engaged real-life opponents? How did their situation develop throughout this episode and eventually conclude?

Black Mirror’s USS Callister: Into Infinity ending explained – How did Infinity Walton survive?

One intriguing twist in USS Callister: Into Infinity was discovering that Walton, whose death by fire marked the end of the prior episode, miraculously lived on within the Infinity simulation.

The team figured it out, as Walton possessed a room aboard the re-emerged spaceship – an occurrence that could only happen if he miraculously endured the passage through the wormhole.

Nanette realized that, if by chance a single atom of Walton managed to pass through the wormhole within Callister’s stream, it would result in him reappearing in the revised edition of Infinity.

When gamers re-start the game, it’s usually on an entirely different world, swiftly located by the team due to the timing of their wormhole passage, and as soon as a fresh planet materialized.

Upon reaching that place, Nanette discovered Walton in a state of delirium, all on his own after having waited quite some time for her arrival. But their joyful meeting didn’t last long as the actual Nanette and Walton showed up.

What did real-world Walton do and what happened to real-world Nanette?

As a film enthusiast, I found myself drawn into the captivating world of Infinity, eager to unravel the mysterious appearances of players sans identification tags. It occurred to me that these enigmatic figures might be replicas of Callister Inc’s staff, including myself, meticulously crafted by Robert Daly.

Initially, it appeared as though the real-life pair would aid the team in navigating to a previously sealed section within Infinity, a safe haven where they could reside free from the threat of attacks by other game participants.

Yet, Walton harbored different intentions; he did not view the crew as genuine individuals. Considering that their presence could potentially harm him in reality, he opted to eliminate them.

Walton had a different approach – he didn’t consider the crew as real people. With the possibility of their existence causing trouble for him in the actual world, he chose to get rid of them.

He shot Karl dead, before real-world Nanette could kill him, sending him out of the game.

In my humble opinion as a film critic, in the gripping thriller “Shattered Lives,” our protagonist, Nanette, confided to Walton that she intended to resign from her job and even hinted at exposing Daly’s misdeeds with the illicit DNA cloner. Their heated exchange escalated, leading Nanette to step into the road unaware, where she was tragically struck by a passing vehicle.

She slipped into a coma, and the doctors informed us, upon our calling her phone, that there was uncertainty about how much of her would remain, should she ever wake up again.

What was at the heart of Infinity?

Since Real-World Walton refused to provide an opportunity for the crew’s escape, it was left up to Infinity Walton to grant them entry into the Heart of Infinity. This location could possibly enable them to establish a distinct, independent game world.

However, first he had to tell them what was really down there – a clone of Robert Daly.

Initially, when Daly began developing the game with financial support from Walton, they encountered a problem: the development process was moving too slowly. In an effort to accelerate progress, Walton introduced Daly to a DNA cloning device and created a clone of Daly as the central character within the game.

This implied the duplicate could continuously enhance and expand the game, perpetually. Yet, this also exposed real-life Walton to potential damage from revelations about Daly’s DNA cloning device surfacing. The gadget was unlawful, and if it were discovered that it was powering the game completely, his reputation would be tarnished.

Nanette ventured to the Core of Eternity for a discussion with Daly, hoping to enlist his aid in constructing a fresh cosmos together.

Initially, he appeared cooperative, as he listened to Nanette’s narrative with shock over his in-game actions. Remarkably, he suggested a solution where he could rescue the crew and transfer Nanette’s consciousness out of her game character, allowing her to exit the game permanently.

Initially, things seemed promising, but a dark turn occurred when he proposed an alternative to transferring Nanette’s consciousness directly – instead, he planned to make a copy of it. While he intended to restore the physical Nanette with the consciousness from the Infinity version, he also wanted to retain a duplicate for himself. He confessed his solitude, having been isolated there for years.

In the heat of our disagreement, I resorted to a tactic reminiscent of the infamous Daly, wielding my power over the game to muffle her voice by forcibly pushing her up against a cold, unyielding wall.

In response to his claim that he was a kind individual who wouldn’t harm her, Nanette swiftly picked up a knife and hurled it, striking him directly on the head, resulting in his death.

Immediately upon entering this, you have an opportunity to pay tribute to the original character since he has passed away. However, in a twist, we get to encounter him again, but in a modified form.

The portrayal felt somewhat like a pre-storyline of his character, offering an intriguing perspective. This methodology seemed fitting, and it adds a touch of novelty, maintaining an engaging and potentially distinctive feel that aligns with our concept.

Regarding the interaction between Nanette and Daly, Brooker commented: “Their pairing, that particular scene is fantastic. It’s impressive how we transition from a massive space battle to, in essence, two individuals conversing in a garage. What’s remarkable is that the intensity never lessens, which underscores their exceptional acting abilities.

Despite his numerous mistakes, there’s an undeniable sense of sympathy when encountering him due to his unfortunate circumstances. He’s been mistreated by his superior, among other hardships, which has left him in a dire state. Moreover, it’s evident that he carries a burden of troubles within him.

What happened to Infinity and real-world Walton?

Daly’s death caused the entire game to collapse.

In a real-life scenario, Walton fled when Kris El Masry, the investigative journalist, exposed Walton’s illicit actions, which had been uncovered by an anonymous tip-off, strongly suspected to be from Nanette.

By the conclusion of the episode, it became clear that his wrongdoings had eventually come back to haunt him, since a broadcast announced his apprehension by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

What happened to the USS Callister crew?

Moments before the game crumbled, Nanette successfully inserted herself into the constructed disk that Daly had devised. This special disk served two purposes: it isolated the team in their own separate reality, and moreover, it transferred Nanette’s mind from this virtual world into her physical body in the real world.

Nevertheless, things didn’t unfold precisely as Nanette had anticipated. In fact, she did regain consciousness in her original body, but an unexpected twist occurred: Walton, Nate, Kabir, and Elena were also transported there, along with the entire ship, which mysteriously materialized within her mind.

Through their phone connection, they could observe from her perspective and converse with her, yet they lacked the ability to physically move or act on their own beyond that.

While working diligently to transfer their operations onto a private, protected cloud server, Nanette struck an agreement with the team: Whenever fresh episodes of The Real Housewives of Atlanta became available, they would be able to enjoy it together.

Among the crew members, only Karl, previously deceased at the hands of the actual Walton, and Shania, a character portrayed by Michaela Coel, whose on-screen demise occurred off-screen between episodes USS Callister and Into Infinity, did not survive.
