The initial lack of my beloved characters Ryo Akiyama and Cyberdramon from Tamers, as well as Ikuto and Falcomon from Savers, was enough to send shockwaves through the fandom. It felt like we had been betrayed by our digital companions.
In honor of its 25th anniversary, the cherished children’s anime series Digimon Adventure has planned a special event. This anime made its debut in 1999 and went on to be carried forward through numerous films and spin-offs. Despite the anniversary falling in 2024, the celebration will take place at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza from January 4th, 2025, to February 11th, 2025. This plaza is a well-known destination in Tokyo’s Odaiba district for grand celebrations, hosting events centered around anime and video games.
For the anniversary, a series of events and displays are scheduled, featuring promotional materials and merchandise. The sneak peeks revealed the cast of characters, but it wasn’t long before fans noticed that Ryo Akiyama & Cyberdramon from “Digimon Tamers” and Ikuto & Falcomon from “Digimon Savers” were missing from the celebration. This oversight led to quick criticism among fans, who expressed their displeasure towards the staff almost immediately after the announcement. In response, the Digimon team acknowledged the concerns of the fans and issued an apology, assuring them that they would add these characters in the future.

As an observer, I’m sharing the details of an apology that was issued: “We genuinely apologize to our fans for falling short of expectations. Excitingly, we unveil new additions to our character roster for the upcoming series. These include Ryo Akiyama and Cyberdramon from Digimon Tamers, as well as Ikuto and Falcomon from Digimon Savers.
They also assured that characters from Digimon would be included in the photo stations established during the event. With its 25th anniversary generating immense interest, Digimon is a beloved franchise that has stood the test of time.
