Imagine discovering that the mall you’re currently in isn’t real, but a remnant of an ancient sacrificial ritual following an apocalypse you can’t remember? That’s the intriguing premise of Mad Cave Studios’ fresh, otherworldly graphic novel Xero. We have an exclusive first peek at the preview below. The brainchild of newcomer writer Vaho and artist Felipe Flores, Xero seamlessly blends aspects of The Matrix, Dark City, and Severance into a one-of-a-kind story you won’t want to miss.
In this graphic novel, readers meet a man named Xero, who’s on a quest to find his pregnant partner in an underground shopping center. Regrettably, details about her and their past are hazy for him, and it doesn’t take long for him to understand that there’s much more he can’t recall – like the catastrophe that led to the post-apocalyptic landscape he now inhabits.
Not only is it troubling that this mall is destined for destruction, but it’s built with the purpose of nurturing humans until they are prepared for a grisly end. As he uncovers more about the origins of these events, he may inevitably confront the malevolent entities responsible if he wishes to escape.
Vaho stated, “Felipe sketched a few scenes from a dream he often has, which gave me the chance to create a whole world! He’s opened up a realm of thoughts I didn’t know existed. It’s truly been an incredible experience collaborating with him and Mad Cave in breathing life into Xero.
Felipe Flores stated, ‘Xero is essentially a comic book at its core.’ We visited Mad Cave Studios with the ambition of producing an ultimate pop art masterpiece. Each page was designed to echo a distinct era and artistic style. Our goal was to rejuvenate the concise storytelling of the Bronze Age, while blending elements from Manga, Video Games, and Cinema. The aim was to craft a narrative that can uniquely thrive in comic books. Admittedly, it takes a daring publisher to let us create something so unconventional.’
Starting from October 7th, you’ll find Xero in both bookshops and comic bookstores. For a detailed look at its graphic novel, simply scroll down to read the official description provided.
Xero’s journeys revolve around his quest to find his partially forgotten and expectant lover, Donna. The situation worsens as he finds himself trapped in a doomed reality – unaware that he is imprisoned within a subterranean shopping mall engineered to nurture humans for sacrifice. As Xero chases after Donna, he gradually exposes a horrific plot that extends beyond an apocalypse of which he remains ignorant.”
“The story of Xero primarily revolves around his mission to locate his almost forgotten and pregnant girlfriend, Donna. His predicament becomes increasingly dire as he discovers himself confined in a disastrous reality – one that he is oblivious to being trapped within, namely a subterranean shopping mall bred for human sacrifice. As Xero follows Donna, he gradually uncovers an appalling plot with roots that predate an apocalypse of which he is ignorant.
Xero uncovers the truth that his existence within the Eternal Mall is merely a prolonged waiting period in a protective sphere designed for sacrifice. His descent into the rabbit hole will take him far from his monotonous, cozy life, urging him to confront this colossal structure and the sinister powers controlling it.
