What you need to know

  • Thick as Thieves is a new game from the brand new studio OtherSide Entertainment.
  • A thief sim with PvPvE gameplay.
  • Play as various characters with vastly different abilities.

As a seasoned researcher with a soft spot for stealth games and a deep appreciation for the nuances of multiplayer competition, I find myself genuinely excited about Thick as Thieves. The game’s unique blend of PvPvE, set against the backdrop of a 1910s metropolis teeming with magic and intrigue, is a tantalizing prospect that harks back to my fond memories of Assassin’s Creed’s PvP mode.

After re-experiencing Dishonored and Deathloop this year, it seemed to me that the foundation of their game genre might be nearing its conclusion. But along came Indiana Jones, which sparked a revival in stealth simulation games. I sensed it. Admittedly, I didn’t anticipate seeing such quick results.

Stepping onto the scene is Thick as Thieves, a multiplayer experience that combines PvPvE gameplay with a 1910s cityscape brimming with magic and mystery. Navigate through the ranks by hiding, sneaking, and swiping valuables while outsmarting rival thieves in this interactive world teeming with tales and darkness. A fresh perspective on stealth from the creative mind of developer Warren Spector.

This scenario instantly grabbed my interest as several characters, each with unique skills, clashed in a frenzy over a valuable million-dollar egg. It reminded me of when one of my favorite Assassin’s Creed games featured a PvP mode where players engaged in hand-to-hand combat trying to kill each other. I’m hoping something similar in this genre becomes popular.

In the whirlwind of online first-person multiplayer competitions, intricate strategies and clever tactics can often be overlooked. To uncover richer gameplay experiences, consider exploring genres like Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas (MOBAs) or Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games instead. Unfortunately, Call of Duty doesn’t offer much in the way of strategic depth compared to other options, even though it remains enjoyable in its own right. It’s just that its gameplay may not satisfy those seeking a more complex experience.

Beyond that, it seems like each character possesses distinct talents. For instance, Chameleon might be able to become practically invisible, while Spider appears to have the power to climb higher and swiftly gain vertical upper hands in fights. Here’s hoping the game captures people’s interest!
