Disney Announces First-Ever Lion King Ride

As a lifelong Disney enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of the magical empire since my childhood, I must say that the upcoming Lion King ride at Disney Adventure World is nothing short of exhilarating! The blend of traditional log flume ride mechanics with cutting-edge technology and immersive storytelling promises to transport us right into the heart of the Pride Lands.

A beloved Disney movie, “The Lion King,” has inspired a new attraction in a Disney theme park. After being hailed as the most successful animated film ever made when it was released in 1994, Disney’s theme park division is finally introducing a “Lion King” ride. This upcoming attraction will open at Disney Adventure World’s second gate, which has been renamed, and seems to be similar to Splash Mountain with its log flume design and waterfall drop.

1) In the subterranean caverns below Pride Rock, visitors can embark on an immersive water ride retelling Simba’s transformation from cub to ruler. This adventure is part of The World of the Lion King, a fresh section of the park dedicated to bringing the film’s characters and tales to life through dining, shopping, encounters with characters, and more. This area is part of a $2 billion expansion for the 22-year-old park, offering “innovative experiences, attractions, and improvements that will immerse you deeply in beloved Disney tales.”

In addition to Avengers Campus, Worlds of Pixar, and Frozen-themed World (set to open in 2026), the park’s multi-year renovation features an Art Deco theater district called World Premiere Plaza. This area transports guests into a new experience that honors classic movie theaters, replacing the entrance’s soundstage decor with fresh tributes to historic cinemas.

“Natacha Rafalski, President of Disneyland Paris, announced a significant change that has revamped over 90% of Walt Disney Studios Park since its opening in 2002. This transformation represents a new, innovative vision for our second gate. It promises to deliver exceptional experiences within immersive realms, making it an ideal extension to the adventures at Disneyland [Paris] Park,” she said.

From 1994 to the present, various productions of “The Lion King” have been performed at different Disney parks. In Walt Disney World’s EPCOT Land Pavilion from 1995 to 2018, a 12-minute film titled “Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable” played alongside “The Legend of the Lion King” stage show. This was replaced by Mickey Philharmagic 4D in 2002. Disneyland Paris hosted its own Broadway-style “Legend of the Lion King” production from 2004 to 2009, and since 2019, the musical “The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands” has been performing in the Frontierland section of the park.
