In just a few days, the last showing of MuppetVision 3D, one of Jim Henson’s final masterpieces, will take place. However, Disney appears set on preventing fans from experiencing this significant moment in history, possibly due to concerns about potential protests and negative publicity.
Disney has officially confirmed that the iconic MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will cease operations permanently on June 7, 2025. This beloved attraction, which first opened in 1991 and was overseen by Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets, before his passing in 1990, is now preparing for its final curtain call. Disney has revealed some insights into how they plan to bid farewell to this cherished piece of their history, taking care to minimize any potential negative reactions from fans.
Fans and media are not invited to Jim Henson’s final performance.

After the public closing, Disney has planned a private goodbye gathering on June 10, 2025, exclusively for Cast Members. This occasion includes the final screening of MuppetVision 3D, as well as meals, games, and entry to PizzeRizzo – also set to close to the public on June 7. While this event is presented as a unique Cast Member experience, it might serve a dual purpose: clearing the Muppet Courtyard of visitors before the park shuts down, and discreetly marking the last showing of the day.
The choice to only allow Cast Members to attend the grand finale has sparked curiosity among fans and onlookers. Some are wondering if this action is aimed at reducing public displays of disapproval or protests regarding the attraction’s shutdown, given its importance as Jim Henson’s final creation and its long-standing place within the park.

In line with its closure, it’s rumored that Disney is capturing a complete live-action version of MuppetVision 3D for storage purposes. The organization has hinted at investigating methods to conserve the movie and other aspects of the event for future fan entertainment. At present, this seems to be only recording the show with video cameras. There don’t seem to be any plans to transfer the attraction to another location, even though it would greatly enhance Epcot within the Imagination Pavilion theater, which now shows Disney+ animated shorts. The thought that Disney won’t even relocate Jim Henson’s last project to Epcot is shockingly poor from a public relations perspective.
Instead of MuppetVision 3D’s current location, there are plans to change it into a brand-new Monsters, Inc.-themed area. This exciting transformation will include Disney’s inaugural suspended roller coaster, modeled after the thrilling door vault scene from the movie.

In my humble opinion as a movie enthusiast, though their dedicated attraction is being phased out, it’s been announced that the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will undergo a transformation to incorporate the Muppets, ensuring these beloved characters continue to be a part of the park experience. However, it’s important to note that these will be Disney’s take on the Muppets, meaning the creative spirit of Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Richard Hunt, Steve Whitmire, and countless others who brought them to life may no longer resonate within the confines of Disney Parks.
With the closing of MuppetVision 3D, enthusiasts find themselves reminiscing about a bygone chapter and the indelible mark that Jim Henson’s imaginative genius has left on Disney’s amusement parks.
