Disney+ Deadpool Collection Is Missing a Movie (But It’s Easy to See Why)

As a film enthusiast with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the arrival of Deadpool & Wolverine on Disney+ is nothing short of a cinematic marvel. The once-pristine streaming platform has now been tainted with the glorious grittiness of the R-rated Deadpool films, including the latest installment featuring the dynamic duo.

Months following its blockbuster theatrical release, breaking records as the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, Deadpool & Wolverine has now arrived on its streaming platform, Disney+. Previously known for its family-friendly content, Disney+ is now the exclusive destination to stream all of the adult-themed Deadpool films, including the latest Marvel Studios installment featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in a multiverse-saving battle.

It’s clear that the debut of Deadpool & Wolverine on Disney+’s streaming platform is expected to draw a huge audience. The service also houses the entire Deadpool series, making it easy for fans to delve into all aspects of Wade Wilson’s offerings. But there’s one crucial installment in the Deadpool Collection on Disney+ that’s notably absent – a pivotal chapter in the on-screen saga of the wisecracking mercenary known as Deadpool.

When you examine the Deadpool Collection available on Disney+, you’ll discover that the often criticized “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie is not included in the lineup. However, the three movies that make up the official Deadpool trilogy are there, as well as a making-of special from Deadpool and Wolverine.

While X-Men Origins: Wolverine isn’t categorized as a Deadpool film and may not meet the quality standards set by Ryan Reynolds’ more recent works, it plays a crucial role in shaping the Deadpool character we know today, which is why it might be left off the list.

For years, Reynolds has been an enthusiast of the Deadpool persona. However, it was the dismal flop of Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins that essentially ignited his mission to portray Deadpool accurately on the silver screen. In the opening scene of the film, viewers realized what a perfect fit Reynolds was for the role. Yet, the character’s mouth had been stitched shut and he still managed to elicit laughter with his appearance, which continues to be amusing even today.

The movie eventually led Reynolds to bring a genuine Deadpool film into existence. In Deadpool 2, he actually eliminates the Origins version of himself on-screen. Despite widespread dislike, especially from those involved, it’s challenging to refute the significant influence it had on Deadpool’s cinematic journey. It was also the film that kindled the friendship between Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

The humor in excluding X-Men Origins: Wolverine from Disney’s Deadpool Collection lies in the irony that this movie is now available for streaming on Disney+, alongside Ryan Reynolds’ other Deadpool films. This placement suggests that leaving it out was a deliberate decision, not just a fluke or oversight.
