Most games initially launched on the first Nintendo Switch can be played on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, with Disney Dreamlight Valley being one of them. This means that players who have upgraded or are considering an upgrade can continue their game seamlessly. Interestingly, Gameloft has revealed that a tailor-made version of Disney Dreamlight Valley for the Nintendo Switch 2 is underway in development. While specifics remain undisclosed, it’s reasonable to assume that developers will leverage the new system’s enhanced capabilities, including improved performance and graphics. As of now, a release date for this version has yet to be disclosed.
It’ll be intriguing to observe how Gameloft approaches the Switch 2 edition of Disney Dreamlight Valley. Many Switch 1 games have received upgrade paths on the new system, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Party Jamboree, even first-party titles. Instead of charging a full price, Nintendo has enabled existing owners to buy these upgrades separately, sometimes offering them through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Similarly, some third-party developers have offered discounted upgrades, like Hogwarts Legacy and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. However, this isn’t always the case; for instance, Sega didn’t offer an upgrade path for Sonic x Shadow Generations, allowing the game’s existing Switch 1 owners to transfer their save data but still charging full price.
It’s hoped that the upgrade path for Disney Dreamlight Valley will be fair and afford users an enhanced experience on Nintendo Switch 2. The game’s performance on the current model is less than ideal, particularly when contrasted with other systems such as Xbox. There’s room for improvement by Gameloft, specifically in boosting the game’s frame rate and reducing load times. A more seamless experience on Nintendo Switch 2 could be something that many existing players would be willing to pay a reasonable price for, given that the developers maintain a fair pricing strategy. Considering the various costs that Dreamlight Valley players already encounter within the game, it’s crucial for the developers to keep the upgrade cost in check.
It’s unclear if the updated version for Nintendo Switch 2 will be available before the next update of Disney Dreamlight Valley, which is scheduled for June 18th. This update, titled The Mysteries of Skull Rock, includes new content and long-awaited quality improvements. Given that this release date is approaching quickly, it’s unlikely that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be available right away, but we can hope that Gameloft will share more information soon.
For now, those using Nintendo Switch 2 can only keep enjoying the existing version of Disney Dreamlight Valley. Although its performance may not match that of other versions, its portability certainly adds an appealing aspect to it.
