Disney is preparing to broaden its pool of English-dubbing voice actors by holding unique auditions, however, there’s a twist in the selection process. Fans of anime may have observed that Disney+ and Hulu have been significantly boosting their exclusive anime content over the past few years. This development includes acquiring some of the most significant new anime releases annually or creating original projects. Now, it seems that Disney is planning to innovate in a fresh direction by adopting a novel strategy for discovering English voice-over talent.
According to Reuben Lack, the Senior Manager of English dubbing at Disney, they’ve decided to seek new English voice actors for potential anime dubs on Disney+ and Hulu. They are welcoming auditions from interested talents, but it’s essential to note that being selected isn’t guaranteed for a future audition or role. They’re particularly interested in discovering fresh talent who haven’t worked with agencies based in Los Angeles or have not previously auditioned for them.
Disney+/Hulu Is Taking Submissions for Brand New Talent
The complete application form (located here) shows that Disney+/Hulu are accepting applications from prospective artists until February 13th, 10:00AM Pacific Time. As Disney mentions, this is their chance to discover new talent they haven’t encountered before. It’s important to note that submitting a demo doesn’t guarantee an audition or role in any project. However, they will listen to every submission and choose approximately 10 for auditions on upcoming anime/animation projects. This opportunity could be the long-awaited break some artists have been seeking, with a possible future chance in store.
They’re specifically searching for individuals who meet certain criteria. Not just anyone will do; they need someone who isn’t currently signed with an agency in California, as they already have contacts there. But that doesn’t rule out a lot of people – they’re also looking for those living in the Los Angeles area or those with a suitable home studio setup, equipped with professional-grade gear. This narrows down the potential pool, but it’s still an opportunity for many to try their luck and potentially break into the voice acting industry.
