As a long-time Disney Lorcana player and collector, I’m always excited to see new additions to the game, especially when they come from beloved movies like “Brother Bear.” This latest announcement of the Shimmering Skies set featuring characters from this 2003 animated film has me feeling nostalgic.
Disney’s Lorcana collection sneakily introduces characters from “Brother Bear” into its upcoming Shimmering Skies set. Recently, Cultress unveiled several new Disney Lorcana cards featuring these beloved characters, including Koda, Kenai, Rutt, Tuke, Tenana, and Denahi. These are the first Brother Bear representations in the game. Koda and Denahi will be rare cards, whereas the others are common or uncommon. In the 2003 animated film “Brother Bear,” the human character Kenai is changed into a bear by spiritual beings as punishment for taking a bear’s life in revenge for his brother’s death. Later, Kenai forms a bond with the bear cub he had killed and decides to live as a bear himself to protect it in its natural habitat. The movie earned an Academy Award nomination but received varied critical reception. Despite this, Disney opted against producing a television follow-up, but eventually released a direct-to-video sequel several years down the line.
The fifth installment of Disney Lorcana, named “Shimmering Skies,” brings Wreck-It Ralph’s characters into the game for the first time. No novel mechanics have been announced in previews, and only a few weeks are left before its release at retailers. This set marks the beginning of a new narrative within the game as parts of the Great Illuminary mysteriously fall to earth during a festive occasion following Ursula’s defeat (as depicted in the previous set.)
