As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with over three decades under my belt, I must say that the Marvel Universe has always been a playground for imagination and innovation. But this latest announcement about Minnie Mouse taking on the mantle of Ms. Marvel in “Marvel & Disney: What If…? Minnie Became Captain Marvel” has me positively giddy with excitement!
1977 saw the debut of a groundbreaking new superheroine, emulating the captivating style of Spider-Man, who was none other than Ms. Marvel, also known as Carol Danvers. Originating from the Captain Marvel series, where Danvers initially appeared without superpowers within Mar-Vell’s circle, Ms. Marvel #1 emerged as a reflection of feminism and Gerry Conway’s description of “the contemporary woman’s pursuit of self-awareness, liberation, and identity.” In 1977, Conway penned that the character known as Ms. Marvel was not a Marvel Girl; rather, she was a woman, neither Miss nor Mrs., but simply Ms., emphasizing her independence and individuality.
Approximately half a century after Carol Danvers, who previously went by the aliases Binary and Warbird before assuming the role of Captain Marvel, has influenced future superheroes such as Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel. However, another renowned character is taking on the title of Ms. Marvel: Minnie Mouse from Disney.
In a unique blend of Disney and Marvel characters, Minnie Mouse will don the role of a superhero for the first time in the comic book series titled “Marvel & Disney: What If…? Minnie Became Captain Marvel #1″. This intriguing collaboration is brought to life by writers Steve Behling, from the Disney Adventures magazine, and Luca Barbieri, known for merging Donald Duck with Wolverine in his own mashup comic. Giada Perissinotto, who introduced Minnie as Captain Marvel on the Disney100 variant cover of 2023’s Amazing Spider-Man #29, is responsible for the pencil work and the cover design of this exciting new series.
As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “Hey there! Mark Paniccia, our editor here, is spot-on when he says Steve, Luca, and Giada perfectly embody Carol Danvers’ origin story – it’s like a heartwarming blast from the past with a touch of Disney magic. Trust me, this comic is going to be the highlight of your month!
In our narrative, the reporter Minnie Mouse from The Chronicle newspaper is investigating a fresh hero in Duckburg named Captain Marvel. However, things get tricky when Peg Leg Pete Scorpion assaults the Chronicle building, and to add fuel to the fire, John D. Rockerduck and the Beagle Boys strike Scrooge McDuck’s vault. When Captain Marvel arrives to halt them, Minnie uncovers a shocking truth about her past! What connection does Minnie have with Duckburg’s latest sensation, Captain Marvel?
