The initial live-action Star Wars series debuted on Disney+, according to reports, has concluded and will not be renewed for further episodes. Since its debut in 2019, Disney+ has hosted a variety of live-action Star Wars shows, including “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Andor,” and “Ahsoka.” While some have been granted multiple seasons, others were designed as limited series.
It appears that after several years of its existence being unclear, “The Mandalorian” is reportedly concluding with Season 3, implying that no further development of a Season 4 will occur on Disney+. Since “The Mandalorian” made its debut in 2019 on the same day as Disney+’s launch, this marks the farewell for the initial Star Wars series to air on the platform.
Based on information from source Daniel Richtman (posted via Patreon), it appears that the production of The Mandalorian Season 4 has been postponed due to Disney considering it more suitable as a film franchise rather than a TV show. The upcoming Mando-centric movie titled The Mandalorian and Grogu, scheduled for release on May 22, 2026, may have played a role in this decision, since its performance will likely influence the future of Din Djarin and Grogu.
Essentially, Richtman disclosed that the storyline for The Mandalorian might conclude quickly if Disney doesn’t find The Mandalorian and Grogu series a success. On the contrary, if it thrives, plans are in place to create a follow-up. Regardless of its financial performance, there won’t be a fourth season of The Mandalorian.
As a passionate fan, I eagerly await the next installment of “The Mandalorian,” but unfortunately, there’s no Season 4 in sight. However, if the upcoming movie manages to captivate audiences, it will pave the way for a thrilling sequel featuring our beloved bounty hunter, Mando. But, if the movie underperforms and fails to resonate with viewers, it might mark the end of Mando’s journey, potentially even putting Director Filoni’s cinematic venture at risk. Here’s hoping for a successful continuation!
Remember, “The Mandalorian” isn’t the sole live-action Star Wars series on Disney+. Just recently, “Andor” Season 2 was unveiled to great acclaim from both critics and fans. In fact, it’s already been announced that “Ahsoka” will return for a second season as well.
It is anticipated that certain Star Wars series on Disney+ will carry on, but others have concluded their run, with “The Mandalorian” now part of the shows that have finished airing.
The Status of Every Star Wars Disney+ Show
The Book of Boba Fett – Not in Development
Initially, there might have been talks between Disney and Lucasfilm about a second season for The Book of Boba Fett. But after the show’s debut, it wasn’t met with much enthusiasm from viewers, so no updates on a possible second season have been announced since then.
Initially, when The Book of Boba Fett debuted, it was advertised as a short-run series. However, if it had garnered significant popularity on Disney+, its fate could have been different. Unfortunately, it didn’t, leading us to speculate that, much like Boba Fett himself, the series may have fallen into the Sarlacc Pit and won’t be making a comeback.
Obi-Wan Kenobi – Not in Development
Similar to The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi initially debuted as a limited series. Despite not receiving the most favorable critic reviews, this didn’t bode well for its potential renewal. However, Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm President, expressed in May 2023 that the show was positively received by executives and left open the possibility that it might resurface at a later time.
By August 2023, Deborah Chow, the director of Obi-Wan Kenobi, hinted at the possibility of the series extending into a second season.
Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi, has expressed his desire to reprise the role on multiple occasions, including discussions about a potential Season 2 with higher-ups. Yet, at this moment, an active development for Season 2 hasn’t been confirmed, and there are no official signs pointing towards its release. However, it’s not entirely out of the question that it could happen someday.
Andor – Not in Development (Completed)
Currently, “Andor” is not being developed anymore at Lucasfilm, as it has already been concluded with the airing of its second season.
As a dedicated cinephile, I must share an interesting tidbit: Initially, the series “Andor” was intended to span over five seasons. However, visionary creator Tony Gilroy felt that a two-season run would serve the storyline more effectively.
Ahsoka – In Development
Many Star Wars enthusiasts tuned into Season 1 of Ahsoka, as it essentially served as a live-action follow-up to the animated series, Star Wars Rebels.
The show was considered successful as Disney has approved a sequel, not just planned but currently being produced, with the first glimpse of Ahsoka Season 2’s production already available (here’s a sneak peek at the behind-the-scenes photo for Ahsoka Season 2).
While it’s undecided if Ahsoka will have a third season, fans can journey to the distant galaxy (or even multiple galaxies given that Season 1 of Ahsoka introduced a new one) in Season 2 instead.
The Acolyte – Not in Development (Cancelled)
Following the conclusion of its debut season on Disney+, the series The Acolyte was unfortunately discontinued. Although it excelled on the platform and had a significant following, it faced criticism from certain Star Wars enthusiasts. Its high production costs proved to be a significant factor in its cancellation.
Despite many executives wishing for it to continue, it appears that Disney has decided against reviving The Acolyte.

Although executives expressed a desire for the show to carry on, Disney seems determined not to resurrect The Acolyte.
Skeleton Crew – Not in Development
Although Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to confirm whether “Skeleton Crew” will get a second season, there’s no indication that it won’t. The series was generally well-liked by viewers, and the characters introduced could potentially reappear in the future, given they belong to the Mandalorian universe and might feature in Dave Filoni’s upcoming crossover film.
Indeed, the narrative presented in “Skeleton Crew” concluded quite satisfactorily as Season 1 drew to a close. Consequently, Disney might choose to let things stand as they are, but there’s also a chance that the series could be renewed for another season at some point in the future.
