Users of Disney+’s streaming service have expressed their displeasure with Disney over a perceived intensified clampdown on password sharing, which they find excessive. Launched in 2019, Disney+ now boasts approximately 150 million subscribers, but not all are content, especially since last year’s implementation of stricter password sharing policies. Similar to Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming platforms, Disney+ stepped up efforts to curb password sharing in an attempt to boost subscriptions. However, on the Disney+ Reddit forum, users believe that the company has recently intensified this crackdown.
The most popular post this week on the Reddit page dedicated to Disney+ is a discussion about the “You’ve exhausted your ‘I’m Away’ requests” message that has been troubling subscribers in their dreams. This message appears when users have utilized all their ‘I’m Away’ options, indicating they can no longer stream on their current device, which is not their home device.
As a dedicated Disney+ fan, I’ve got to say, the recent crackdown on password sharing seems like a step in the right direction. However, fellow Redditors and I have encountered some issues with it. For instance, single-device users who don’t share passwords are finding themselves confronted by a screen that shouldn’t appear in their viewing experience. On the other hand, some users have been stuck in an endless loop of this same screen after relocating homes and updating their account information on the device.
A user shared this: “Four months ago, I relocated and almost every 2-3 days, I get these messages. I constantly click on ‘Update Household’, but when that doesn’t work anymore, I resort to ‘I’m away’. However, when it stops working again, I need to reach out to Disney+ for help, and they resolve the issue – temporarily. Unfortunately, the problem keeps reoccurring, making me feel stuck in a cycle. I’ve contacted Disney Support three times now, with each instance being assured that this won’t happen again, but it always does.
Simultaneously, the feedback suggests that this issue is significant for people who travel frequently and those with families. Interestingly, this poses more concern for some subscribers since it’s clear that the streaming service was designed primarily for family entertainment.
A Redditor mentions that they find Disney Plus quite bothersome as it seems tailored more for families. This becomes an issue when the children are at grandma’s house and they wish to watch their preferred programs.
An additional remark states: “They’ve turned into a laughing stock. The application itself is terribly flawed, constantly freezing and causing my television to malfunction, and it even skips scenes while I’m watching a series.
Since when is this a thing? Wack as hell

It seems that Disney+’s latest attempt to stop password sharing is facing challenges, similar to the app itself, as it appears to be poorly executed with numerous glitches and problems. This has sparked some subscribers to express their intent to terminate their subscriptions in response to this issue.
This person stated they won’t be renewing their subscription because they find it unnecessary to pay extra for a service that can only be used at home.
This week’s Reddit post on Disney+ has garnered more attention than any other in the past seven days, and within six short days, it even made its way into the top four most popular posts of the last year on that page! That makes it the standout post of 2021 so far. In summary, this post seems to be striking a chord with our subscribers.
