Disrespectful Foreign Tourists Force Closure of Japanese Shrine Fixed by Ghost of Tsushima Fans

This is the kind of story that makes our blood boil.

Due to a deeply regrettable and inexcusable act of disregard shown by some foreign visitors, the Watazumi Shrine situated on Tsushima Island is now closed to tourists. The specifics of what happened remain undisclosed, but it’s been reported that this unfortunate incident leading to its closure took place on March 23rd.

As a passionate gamer, I’ve been moved to share a heartwarming story about the gaming community coming together in real life. After the iconic Torii gate from Tsushima Island in Japan, a place made famous by Ghost of Tsushima, was destroyed by a typhoon, fans rallied and managed to raise an incredible $179,000 (roughly 27 million yen) to help repair it. This just goes to show the power of our shared gaming experiences in bringing people together for a good cause!

Now only worshippers will be permitted entrance.

It’s unfortunate that this isn’t an uncommon occurrence – foreigners damaging historical Japanese landmarks. We fear this may happen again. Such actions are more than just disrespectful; they mar the experience for the countless international visitors who flock to Japan annually.

The shrine stated emphatically that the damage caused to treasured locations, artifacts, and people by international tourism is equivalent to the erosion of Japanese culture itself.

“Those who consider this place a theme park or simply a photogenic location are not worshippers.”
