As a film enthusiast who’s deeply into Marvel, I must admit that while the universe is brimming with genius minds, none can rival the cunning intellect of the villainous Doctor Doom. If you were to ask any Marvel fan to list some of their smartest characters, names like Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, Beast, Black Panther, and even Moon Girl would come up. These individuals are part of teams such as the Avengers and Fantastic Four. Now, I can just imagine Doctor Doom bristling at not being number one on that list!
In the thrilling comic “One World Under Doom,” Doctor Doom truly showcases his intellect by outsmarting both Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Marvel’s First Family simultaneously. However, beware! Reading further may reveal spoilers for One World Under Doom #1. Proceed at your own risk!
Title #1 of “One World Under Doom” is penned by Ryan North, R.B. Silva, David Curiel, and letterer Travis Lanham. This limited series explores Doctor Doom’s audacious bid to become Emperor Doom, after he seizes the title of Sorcerer Supreme and demands submission from all Earth’s nations. As expected, the Avengers refuse to stand idly by as Doctor Doom attempts global domination. Alongside the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, they engage in a fierce battle against Doom and his newfound partners, Baron Zemo and Hydra. However, just when it seems the heroes have gained the upper hand, Doctor Doom orchestrates an unexpected twist to turn the tide of the conflict.
How Doctor Doom outsmarts the Avengers and Fantastic Four
While the Avengers and Fantastic Four convene to strategize against Doctor Doom, Baron Zemo and Hydra make a move to eliminate him directly in Latveria. However, upon reaching Latveria’s borders, our heroes intercept a broadcast revealing an alliance between Zemo and Doom. Surprisingly, Zemo admits his past mistakes regarding Doom and announces that Hydra will collaborate with him to construct schools and hospitals, effectively transforming Hydra into a force for good rather than the infamous Nazi-like group they once were.
When the Avengers and Fantastic Four storm Hydra’s airborne facility, they find that Baron Zemo has been replaced by a Doombot. Investigating the Doombot’s past uncovers that Doctor Doom assassinated Zemo and substituted him with this mechanical duplicate. Iron Man uses his own global broadcast to expose Doctor Doom’s deception, but the situation changes when Doom comes clean about his deceit. However, it’s revealed later that Doom not only killed Baron Zemo but also Red Skull as well. These villains were racist and evil, a problem Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have been grappling with since World War II. Surprisingly, Doom managed to eliminate them in just one day, something the Avengers have been struggling with for decades.
As a cinephile, I can’t help but admire Doctor Doom’s masterful manipulation of events. Instead of celebrating the Avengers and Fantastic Four’s triumph, he cleverly turns it into an opportunity for his own victory. He subtly sows seeds of suspicion among the heroes, implying they are envious of his rapid achievements. In a sinister tone, he says, “If they couldn’t save you — then they would ensure no one else could.” It’s a testament to Doctor Doom’s foresight and cunning intelligence that he stays several steps ahead of our heroes.
Knowing full well that Baron Zemo wouldn’t resist attacking him, he strategically allows Zemo into Latveria. And if the Avengers and Fantastic Four couldn’t resist revealing the truth to the world, he was prepared for that too. So, let’s give a nod to Victor Von Doom as he points at his head, symbolizing the vast intellect that makes him such a formidable adversary.
Doctor Doom continues his takeover of the Marvel Universe
In a surprising turn of events, Doctor Doom has managed to sway public opinion in his favor, making people trust him more than the Avengers and the Fantastic Four in “One World Under Doom” #1. Even characters like Iron Man and Mister Fantastic, who have frequently clashed with Doom, found themselves deceived by him. It’s worth noting that Doctor Doom has a history with Iron Man, having starred in his own comic series titled “Infamous Iron Man“. Tony Stark, therefore, is no stranger to dealing with Victor Von Doom. As for Mister Fantastic and Doom, their intellectual rivalry goes back and forth, with Reed Richards sometimes coming out on top, while at other times it’s Doctor Doom who emerges victorious in the debate over who is smarter between the two.
In the upcoming series “One World Under Doom”, Doctor Doom’s character is set for a significant transformation, potentially reshaping the Marvel Universe. While we may not see just one instance of his prodigious mind at work, there will likely be moments when he encounters difficulties and demonstrates his ability to adapt and navigate through new challenges that come his way.
