In the comic series titled “One World Under Doom“, we’ve been witnessing different aspects of Doctor Doom. In the 2024 storyline, “Blood Hunt“, he ascended to the position of Sorcerer Supreme, and readers knew that he was going to make a significant shift with his newfound powers. Utilizing them, he seized control over the world and has since been consolidating his authority, defeating groups such as the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, Hydra, and the Masters of Evil. Issue #4 of “One World Under Doom” places Doctor Doom in a new predicament, as Dormammu chooses to assess the new Sorcerer Supreme’s determination to save the world. The confrontation between Doom and Dormammu is an unexpected showdown that fans never anticipated, and issue #4 delivers this epic battle in the grandeur it deserves.
Since Dormammu started attacking Earth in “One World Under Doom” #3, there has been an unsettling feeling about the whole incident, because Doctor Strange’s anti-Dormammu defenses were not renewed by Doom. This is unusual for Doom, who rarely forgets important matters like this. In “One World Under Doom” #4, we learn more about why Dormammu believes that Doom decided to leave the Earth unprotected, potentially showing the boundaries of altruistic actions that Doom might perform.
Dormammu Reveals a Startling Secret about Doom’s Role as Sorcerer Strange
It quickly became apparent to readers that something wasn’t quite right about the whole situation. For ages, Doctor Strange managed to keep Dormammu at bay from attacking Earth, using magic to barricade him in the Dark Dimension. On the other hand, it seemed as though Doom had overlooked this crucial defense mechanism; however, as revealed in One World Under Doom #4, it wasn’t a mistake but rather a deliberate weakening of Earth’s magical barriers that allowed Dormammu to infiltrate our world. But here’s the twist: Dormammu then discloses that Doom could end this conflict between them anytime he wished. The catch? Doom would have to surrender his title as Sorcerer Supreme, which would banish Dormammu and free the superheroes he had captured, ultimately saving Earth’s people. However, this meant that Doom would have to acknowledge his mistakes and admit that he couldn’t match Doctor Strange’s repeated victories against Dormammu in battle. Essentially, Doom could put an end to everything instantly, but only by admitting that he was not as powerful as Doctor Strange.
In a surprising twist, the character known as Doom has shown an unprecedented level of benevolence in the storyline “One World Under Doom”. Instead of seizing power through mind control or tyranny, he used diplomacy and granted leaders’ desires to become the world’s Emperor. Later, when he had amassed the power he desired, he dedicated himself to improving the lives of the people worldwide. This selfless behavior is a stark contrast to his usual selfish nature, which has garnered him newfound respect.
However, Dormammu’s revelation about Doom’s true intentions exposes that his altruistic act was merely a ruse. The readers had long suspected that Doom covets power and glory above all else. This turn of events raises questions about the validity of Doom’s recent actions; did he unwittingly pave the way for Dormammu’s attack on the world, and is he now too stubborn to take an easy route to defeat Dormammu? Could it be that Doom’s excessive pride has jeopardized what was otherwise a flawless plan?
This Has to be All a Part of Doom’s Plan
It’s clear that Doom didn’t let Doom accidentally attack Earth; instead, he had a strategy for Dormammu to strike. This is the only plausible explanation. Additionally, it’s true that Dormammu’s revelation about Doom’s arrogance not taking the easy route holds water – this isn’t typical of Doom’s behavior. So, what’s the strategy? To put it simply, this situation serves as another instance of Doom striving to prove himself to the world. A part of his plan included rescuing the heroes that Dormammu had imprisoned. With this group, they would pursue Doom, bringing the issue to a close. By working alongside his adversaries, Doom aims to demonstrate to the world that he can save the day even when collaborating with his enemies.
Previously, it was made clear that Doom could vanquish the heroes whenever he wished, demonstrating his ability to conquer those who once defeated him. This was all part of a strategy, one that’s still being executed. Unlike before, when he battled against the heroes and demonstrated superiority, this time, Doom is choosing to fight alongside his adversaries. This move cleverly conveys that he has changed and can be relied upon. The plot unfolds intriguingly as we watch Doom navigate further.
