As a lifelong fan of both Doctor Who and Star Trek, I can barely contain my excitement at the prospect of these two iconic franchises finally crossing over in a live-action episode! The thought of The Doctor and Captain Kirk (or any other incarnation) exploring the cosmos together is simply mind-blowing.
In the realm of science fiction TV series, none have left as significant an imprint as Doctor Who and Star Trek. These iconic franchises have collaborated in comic books, and they’re planning to merge in their mobile games soon. However, fans have been yearning for a live-action crossover between the two, and surprisingly, it might not be entirely impossible. At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, showrunner Russell T. Davies from Doctor Who and executive producer Alex Kurtzman from Star Trek shared potential obstacles that could prevent a well-executed crossover episode.
In simpler terms, Davies shared that they’re planning a special episode where two of their universes intersect, and the key to making this happen lies with the fans. The fans have been creating fan art, stories, and expressing their desire for these universes to merge. He emphasized that such an event is not just desirable but necessary. It needs to take place.
In Kurtzman’s words, “We hold similar beliefs, we view the world in a similar light, and we strive to narrate stories that shed light on humanity. Every version of The Doctor and every version of Star Trek has consistently aimed to enlighten each new generation it caters to. It’s this profound bond that makes us who we are.”
When Will Doctor Who Return With New Episodes?
Production on the second season (bearing the Disney+ brand) of “Doctor Who” has already been completed; however, a specific release date is still undetermined. It’s been confirmed that both Gatwa and Gibson will reprise their roles for Season 2, alongside Varada Sethu who will join as a secretive second companion.
As I’ve settled into this role, it’s become an absolute blast! I’ve eased up a bit, and the character of the Doctor has seemed to burrow even deeper – not just in my chest, but now residing right here in my gut.
You can now watch the debut season of “Doctor Who” only on Disney+ streaming service. If you’re not a subscriber yet, you can give it a test run by clicking here.
