As a lifelong Doctor Who enthusiast with memories of gallifreyan adventures etched into my very soul, I must say that the news about Doctor Who at the Proms 2024 airing on Christmas Eve has filled me with unbridled excitement! I remember the magical moments when Murray Gold’s enchanting compositions accompanied our favorite Time Lord on his journeys, and I simply cannot wait to relive those feelings once more.
Fans of Doctor Who now have a date to look forward to for viewing the show’s unique BBC Proms performance that occurred this past summer at the Royal Albert Hall.
At this festive occasion, Alastair King led an entire orchestra in a tribute concert dedicated to the melodies of Doctor Who composer Murray Gold, who was involved with the series from 2005 through 2017 and made a comeback for the recent revamp by Russell T Davies.
As a movie enthusiast, I had the pleasure of attending a prominently funny event where Catherine Tate, famously known as Donna Noble from Doctor Who, was the gracious host. Gold had hinted to TopMob earlier that this show would feature “homegrown films, unique inserts specially tailored for Ncuti [Gatwa]”.
Unfortunately, not everyone was able to secure tickets for the performances at the Royal Albert Hall, leaving many Doctor Who fans eagerly anticipating the unexpected reveals that unfolded during the event.
Luckily, that wait is nearly done – it’s been confirmed that “Doctor Who at the Proms 2024” will be aired on BBC Two at 4:10 pm on Christmas Eve. Make sure to save the date!
Before the event, composer Murray Gold hinted at the playlist to TopMob: “Much of the music is being played for the first time, apart from when we originally recorded it for the show. It’s not accessible through CD as none of these recordings have been officially released.
“There’s a lot of new stuff, and there were a couple of things that we just had to slice out.”

Shortly following the incident, showrunner Russell T Davies posted on Instagram that it included “fun, amusement, excitement, and tunes,” and hinted at a surprise ending – alluding to the musical finale of The Devil’s Chord in season 14.
Alongside Doctor Who’s performance at The Proms, enthusiasts of BBC’s renowned sci-fi series can anticipate this year’s Christmas special titled Joy to the World by Steven Moffat, featuring Ncuti Gatwa and Nicola Coughlan from Bridgerton.
