Doctor Who casts Hijack star as new villain for season 15

As a movie enthusiast with a keen eye for spotting talent and a deep appreciation for diversity in storytelling, I am thrilled to hear that Archie Panjabi has joined the cast of Doctor Who as a villainous character. Her extensive experience on both UK and US screens, coupled with her award-winning performances, makes her an excellent addition to the show.

Although we won’t see fresh episodes of Doctor Who until next year, there’s news about a fresh antagonist set to appear in the series.

According to reports, Emmy Award-winning actress Archie Panjabi is set to appear in the upcoming season of Doctor Who, taking on the role of a formidable new adversary.

At present, specifics concerning her duties are kept confidential; neither the BBC nor Disney Plus provided comments when contacted by Deadline.

Punjabi has made a name for herself by playing diverse roles across both British and American television screens, appearing in series such as Life on Mars, Blindspot, and The Good Wife.

Recently, you may have noticed Panjabi appearing on your screens, starring alongside Idris Elba in Apple TV+’s show Hijack, and portraying the role of Suman, the mother of murdered teenager Reena Virk, in the true crime drama Under the Bridge.

In terms of film, Panjabi has starred in East Is East, Bend It Like Beckham and A Mighty Heart.

Throughout her acting career, Panjabi achieved the distinction of being the initial Asian performer to receive a Primetime Emmy Award in 2010 for her role in The Good Wife. Additionally, she has garnered several other award nominations.

Though specifics about her character in Doctor Who are still unknown at this point, the high-quality evil characters added to the 14th season have been greatly appreciated by fans, so there’s no doubt that we eagerly await learning more about it.

In the upcoming season, it has been confirmed that Panjabi will team up with Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson. Additionally, Varada Sethu is set to join the show as the latest travel partner for the Doctor, known as Belinda Chandra.

The filming for the 15th season of Doctor Who concluded earlier this year, sparking curiosity among fans of the science fiction show about the dynamic of having two companions alongside the Doctor.

Upon hearing about my role in the series, Sethu expressed his feelings as if he’s the luckiest individual on earth. Being a part of the Whoniverse is truly an honor for him.

I’m deeply appreciative of the entire Doctor Who clan, for embracing me warmly just as one does a long-lost friend, and making me feel incredibly at ease within their circle.

There’s no team I could wish for more on this adventure than Ncuti and Millie; it’s simply a blast!” or alternatively, “I couldn’t ask for a better pair of companions for this journey than Ncuti and Millie – it’s an absolute riot!

More recently, it’s been revealed that Charlie Condou, previously from Coronation Street, is set to appear in the 15th season as well. Like Panjabi, specifics about his character and role are being kept under wraps at this time.

Currently, Doctor Who enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated Christmas special, which promises to be an enjoyable and festive delight for fans.

Titled “Joy to the World,” this upcoming episode features the comeback of Gatwa’s Doctor and introduces viewers to the guest character, Nicola Coughlan’s Joy.

A while back, it was revealed that the lead actor from Bridgerton would be featuring in a holiday special. Lately, though, the first sneak peek of this project has been unveiled during San Diego Comic-Con.

This upcoming episode was penned by ex-executive producer Steven Moffat, making it likely to be an intriguing installment filled with unexpected plot developments and surprises.

Doctor Who season 15 will be released in May 2025.
