Doctor Who casts Sherlock and Casualty stars in Christmas special

As a seasoned Whovian with over four decades of time-traveling tales under my belt, I must say that the latest casting announcements for the Doctor Who Christmas special have sent a thrill down my timelord spine!

Even though the Doctor Who Christmas special is still several months off, enthusiasts are eagerly seeking additional information, and fortunately, some fresh casting announcements have been made!

In simpler terms, the television series “Joy,” penned by Steven Moffat (formerly of Doctor Who), has cast Nicola Coughlan in the role of a character named ‘Joy.’ Additionally, Ncuti Gatwa will reprise his role as the Fifteenth Doctor.

At San Diego Comic-Con, attendees enjoyed an extraordinary sneak peek into the latest episode, where the Doctor presented some delightful surprises – a toasted ham and cheese sandwich and a pumpkin flavored coffee drink, appearing at various temporal and spatial locations.

Moreover, it introduced several fresh personalities, as these actors have recently been verified in the latest edition of Doctor Who Magazine.

In this Christmas special, the role of Basil is played by the dark-hued actor Peter Benedict, while Julia Watson, known for her work on Casualty, takes on the character of Hilda. They both appear in this story set at the Queens Hotel in Manchester during World War II.

Next, actress Niamh Marie Smith portrays Sylvia, holding Agatha Christie’s book “Murder on the Orient Express,” while in another scene, actor Phil Baxter is shown as Edmund Hillary and Samuel Sherpa-Moore as Tenzing Norgay.

In the year 2024, Steph de Whalley’s character Anita guides Joy to their room at the Sandringham Hotel. Meanwhile, unexpectedly, a Silurian named Melnak, portrayed by recurring Sherlock actor Jonathan Aris, manages to enter Anita’s room, despite it being locked.

Coughlan portrays Joy as a resolute woman, whose life undergoes a transformative shift upon encountering the Doctor.

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’m sharing some exciting news about Steven Moffat. He’s back in the picture, having written the Season 14 episode titled “Boom,” and he’s given us a hint that this upcoming Christmas special might be a tear-jerker. So, buckle up and grab your tissues!

Previously, I expressed my sentiments about rejoining the festive adventure as follows: “It was simply enjoyable, and it felt great to have my old role for just one episode before I could relax again. However, Russell [T Davies] is always hard at work, continuously toiling.” In a more personalized way, I might say: “I thoroughly enjoyed returning for the holiday adventure. It was wonderful to step back into my old role briefly, and then it was time for me to unwind. But Russell [T Davies], he’s always been diligently working away, never stopping.”
