Doctor Who Fans Nailed It! 😲

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Doctor Who episode The Interstellar Song Contest

About a year following her initial appearance, Doctor Who unveiled the true nature of Anita Dobson’s character, Mrs. Flood, and for certain fans, this revelation didn’t come as a shock.

At the climax of The Interstellar Song Competition, it turned out that Mrs. Flood was actually the rogue Time Lady known as the Rani – a character initially presented in 1985 and famously portrayed by Kate O’Mara in previous appearances.

At the conclusion of the episode, Dobson’s persona underwent a dual emergence, with Archie Panjabi assuming the role of the revamped character referred to as Rani, or as she describes it, “the indefinable article.

Since the debut of Mrs. Flood in 2023’s The Church on Ruby Road, some viewers have theorized that she might be the Rani. Recently, showrunner Russell T Davies hinted at this possibility by stating that sometimes it’s enjoyable to fulfill audience expectations.

In the thrilling world of Doctor Who: Unleashed, I couldn’t help but share my excitement as we finally unveiled the true identity of Mrs. Flood. While it can be tempting to give fans exactly what they anticipate, there’s a certain joy in revealing something unexpected and truly memorable.

Indeed, she’s not just any Time Lady; she is the renowned Rani. Moreover, she possesses a unique trait known as being bi-generated. Currently, her identity has evolved into Mrs. Flood, and actress Archie Panjabi will portray the Rani in an upcoming role, which certainly adds to the excitement!

From the outset, it had been a notion that lingered. I’ve always suspected her to be the Queen, or Rani as she’s known from an old Doctor Who villain. Interestingly, since the show returned in 2005, no one has ever played this character again. She’s been biding her time, and now seems to be her moment.

In the upcoming episode, “Wish World,” you’ll see two iterations of the character Rani making an appearance. She will join forces with Jonah Hauer-King’s character, Conrad Clark, forming a powerful trio known as The Unholy Trinity.

On Saturday, 24th May, the latest episodes of Doctor Who will air starting at 8:00 AM on BBC iPlayer within the UK. You can also catch it on BBC One later in the day. For viewers outside the UK, you’ll find the series on Disney+.
