20 years following their initial appearance in the reboot of Doctor Who, Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper will once more join forces inside the TARDIS for a fresh series of audio dramas.
For the first time, Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper are set to appear together in a Big Finish audio drama for the sci-fi series, having both played their respective characters (Ninth Doctor and Rose) in audio dramas since their on-screen departure.
In the 12-episode fourth season of Doctor Who – The Ninth Doctor Adventures, the story takes us back to the Powell Estate, a place that resurfaces memories from the Doctor’s past. As he ventures further into the cosmos, he encounters both familiar adversaries and new threats.
Eccleston expressed joy about working again with Piper on more stories for the Ninth Doctor: “I feel my Doctor character isn’t complete without Rose, played by Billie.
This alien is more like a solitary figure, preferring to be on his own. In our stories at Big Finish, he’s portrayed as a lone wanderer. Yet, there’s an undeniable strength, courage, and profound compassion in Billie as Rose that makes the narrative compelling. That’s why I write these stories – because they complement each other beautifully.
As Piper mentioned, it seems like an ideal moment for Rose to reconnect with her initial Doctor, given our circumstances. Twenty years ago, we embarked on our first adventure together when she stepped into the TARDIS. Now, here we are once more, ready to enjoy a new set of adventures and face the wonders – as well as the perils – of the universe side by side.
