Doctor Who & Line of Duty Stars in Tragic Shooting Drama

Disney Plus has announced the cast for their forthcoming series titled “Suspect: The Fatal Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes.

Based on a true event where an innocent man named Jean Charles de Menezes was mistakenly killed in the aftermath of the London 7/7 bombings, a four-part television series has been created. This series was written and executive produced by Jeff Pope, who also wrote the film “Philomena”.

Fresh face Edison Alcaide is set to play the role of de Menezes, and will be accompanied by Conleth Hill known for his work in Game of Thrones, Russell Tovey from Years and Years, Max Beesley recognized for The Midwich Cuckoos, Emily Mortimer famous as Paddington in Peru, Daniel Mays of The Long Shadow, Laura Aikman best known from Gavin & Stacey, and Alex Jennings who starred in A Very English Scandal.

In this production, Hill portrays Sir Ian Blair, a former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, while Tovey takes on the role of one of Blair’s deputy assistant commissioners. Additionally, Max Beesley is cast as Assistant Commissioner Andy Hayman, who oversaw the Met’s investigation into the bombings.

Simultaneously, Mortimer acted as Cressida Dick, who was the head of the surveillance team chasing those suspected of the bombings at that time.

In this production, Mays assumes the role of the main forensic investigator, Cliff Todd, while Laura Aikman portrays Lana Vandenberghe, who is a secretary at the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Completing the ensemble is Jennings, portraying barrister Michael Mansfield KC, a character who defends the relatives of Jean Charles de Menezes during the inquiry into his fatal shooting incident.

Jean Charles de Menezes’s parents and other relatives served as consultants for the series.

The four-part structure explores various viewpoints of the participants, demonstrating that memories, whether precise or skewed, can be transformed into facts and significantly influence our perception of reality.

The synopsis reads: “Set 20 years ago, as London reels from the devastating suicide bomb attacks of 7th July 2005, the Metropolitan Police launches a large-scale counter terrorism operation to prevent further attacks.

Without their knowledge, another group of extremists is secretly planning an attack with potential destruction comparable to that of the July 7th incident.

According to Jeff Pope, this story is extremely significant and we’ve assembled a strong cast of actors who will assist us in delving into the series of events that culminated in the unfortunate shooting of an innocent man named Jean Charles de Menezes.

Originally, he was merely a daily commutter. For almost an hour, surveillance cameras could not accurately recognize him. Tragically, he met his end being fatally shot on a bustling subway train. His family now struggles to illuminate the crucial oversights that may have contributed to this heartbreaking incident.
