With news that another timeless Doctor Who series is set for colorization, akin to The Daleks in 2023, some enthusiasts expressed worry about what might be sacrificed during this transformation.
This is partially due to the fact that the most recent remaster focused on the series titled “The War Games,” which is known for its extended duration of four hours and ten minutes. However, this extensive run was being compressed into a single, 90-minute long, feature-length episode.
Nonetheless, Producer Phil Collinson of Doctor Who has taken steps to allay any concerns among fans that the newly remastered episodes might replace the originals. He guaranteed that the serials will continue to be accessible on iPlayer in their original versions.
In the latest edition of Doctor Who Magazine, Collinson expressed his fondness for these tales, stating that they were a significant part of his childhood. He assured fans that these stories will always be available for viewing enjoyment.
To be honest, I often come across individuals, particularly young ones, who struggle with the idea of spending extended periods watching monochrome content.
I adore these stories, many others do too! They’re fantastic, comparable to the best content currently being shared. However, at times, they may require a little boost to resonate more effectively. That’s where we step in, infusing them with as much affection as possible.
Simultaneously, Richard Tipple, the colorization artist for The War Games, commented: “An ordinary viewer might feel intimidated by the prospect of working on ten black-and-white episodes. But a 90-minute movie, in color – that’s something they could easily embrace.
“It might open this whole era up to someone, how cool would that be?
This tale is marvelous and grandiose, reminiscent of Troughton’s glory days. We’ve updated it to match modern standards, but it was carefully revamped while preserving the essence of the original.
In the revamped edition of “The War Games,” it seems that more than simply trimming and colorizing was involved, as it appears to substantiate a long-held fan theory, suggesting that the War Chief might actually be a form of the Master.
In a pivotal moment when the Doctor and the War Chief establish their initial recognition, an original melody by Murray Gold titled “The Master Vainglorious” begins to soundtrack the scene.
