As a devoted Whovian who has traversed galaxies, time vortexes, and countless TARDIS landings since my very first encounter with the Doctor during the black-and-white era, I must confess that the news of the disappearance of ‘Terror of the Zygons’ and ‘The Seeds of Doom’ from BBC iPlayer has left me more bewildered than a Dalek in a junkyard.
Two classic Doctor Who serials have been removed from BBC iPlayer.
It’s been pointed out by fans that the BBC iPlayer no longer carries the Season 13 episodes “Terror of the Zygons” and “The Seeds of Doom” as they both had a removal date of Friday, 1st November.
In 1975 and 1976, two stories premiered with Tom Baker portraying the Fourth Doctor and Elisabeth Sladen playing his companion, Sarah Jane Smith. These captivating tales were penned by Robert Banks Stewart and guided by Douglas Camfield in their directional roles.
During last year’s festivities marking Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary, the BBC revealed that over 800 episodes spanning both the classic and contemporary eras of the series would be accessible on iPlayer. This was a significant goal that showrunner Russell T Davies had expressed.
Several spin-off shows came back on iPlayer, such as The Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood, Class, and the backstage series Doctor Who Confidential.
Notably missing is the debut serial, An Unearthly Child, marking the beginning of Doctor Who and introducing William Hartnell as the First Doctor.
