Doctor Who reveals new details about Sacha Dhawan’s Master in spin-off stories

As a seasoned Whovian with a soft spot for the enigmatic Master, I can hardly contain my excitement for Sacha Dhawan’s upcoming adventures in “Call Me Master: Inner Demons.” With three enticing stories that delve deep into the heart of this complex character, it’s a tantalizing prospect to witness the Master’s journey through self-discovery and chaos.

Actor Sacha Dhawan, known for his role as Doctor Who‘s Master, will delve into the origins of this character in fresh stories penned by Big Finish.

The set titled “Call Me Master: Inner Demons,” comprising three complete audio dramas – “Self-Help” penned by Robert Valentine, “The Clockwork Swan” authored by Georgia Cook, and “The Good Life” written by Una McCormack – is scheduled for release in February 2025.

In this rendition, the characters are about to witness the Master delightfully causing disorder throughout the cosmos while exploring his newest incarnation. The plotline hints at clever, fresh strategies from the familiar antagonist, with no Doctor to impede him.

In this rephrased version, we find that “Self-Help” introduces a character who is embroiled in a cunning plan, yet wrestles with a profound sense of uncertainty, often described as an existential dilemma. Will he manage to pull himself out of this slump?

Valentine said: “Where Sacha’s Master fits into the timeline is a deliberate mystery.

As a movie critic, I found it intriguing to explore the concept of our new protagonist as an antihero by amplifying his identity struggles. The narrative centers around his deep-seated confusion about his place in the world, a struggle that fuels his anxiety and forms the core of the storyline. This uncertainty about where he belongs is not just a plot device, but a profound exploration of the human condition, making it relatable and thought-provoking for the audience.

In the setting of a cultural amusement park called Historica Dramatica, “The Clockwork Swan” was set to unfold as a mystery play. However, the plot takes an unexpected twist when the actors themselves mysteriously begin meeting untimely ends, one after another.

An enigmatic individual, self-identified as LeMaitre, enters the scene to solve the puzzle – an individual often recognized under a different alias.

Cook stated, “The Master is known for assuming various roles and nicknames, as well as donning diverse attires throughout history.

Often, his performances may not stand out as exceptional, but somehow people overlook this. It’s fascinating to contribute to the legend by watching him exaggerate his acting, creating an impression of a detective akin to Poirot or Sherlock Holmes.

McCormack said: “My initial pitch was that we do something similar to Mervyn Peake’s novel Mr Pye.

In the story, the protagonist reaches the isle of Sark, performing numerous acts of kindness that eventually cause him to develop feathers resembling angel wings. It’s intriguing how the central character struggles with goodness yet fails to excel at it effectively.

The sequel to “Inner Demons” is set to debut in September 2025, featuring more tales centering around Sacha Dhawan’s character, the Master, in a new box set.

Fans can either purchase both sets as a pair through the Big Finish website, or opt for the standalone set titled “Inner Demons.
