*Warning: Spoilers ahead for Doctor Who episode Wish World.*
In the recent installment of Doctor Who, titled Wish World, one of the many exciting revelations and emotional highlights was the solution to a mystery that had been building since the 73rd episode of last season.
As a passionate cinephile, I found myself utterly captivated by the critically acclaimed installment that traced Millie Gibson‘s character, Ruby Sunday, through various stages of her life. Alongside Ruby, a woman shrouded in mystery also made an appearance, keeping viewers on their toes throughout the film.
As I reflect on the episode’s conclusion, I find myself puzzled by the fact that, upon our return to reality, Ruby appears to have no recollection of her extraordinary experiences in 73 Yards. It leaves me wondering: Where did the life she lived during that adventure vanish, and what became of the precious memories she made?
Currently, it’s been disclosed that Ruby consistently experiences a reflection-like perception of reality within herself following her life’s journey through the expanse of 73 Yards.
The episode depicts our main characters, which include The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa), Belinda (Varada Sethu), among others, getting transported into a different dimension governed by the Rani (Archie Panjabi) and Conrad Clark (Jonah Hauer-King). Questioning the authenticity of this reality can lead to severe consequences.

In conversation with Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham, Ruby expresses her uncertainty about the Wish World by saying, “I have a feeling there’s someone named the Doctor who might be linked to this situation. It seems strangely familiar, as if I’ve experienced it before.
As we see flashes of Ruby’s life from 73 Yards, she adds: “I’ve seen 2025 and it was different.”

She’s having a tough time getting understood – it seems like no one is paying attention to her. Interestingly enough, this sets Ruby apart in this final episode…It’s quite unusual for Ruby as she appears to be the only one who understands what’s happening.
Regarding the 73 Yards connection, she stated, “I wasn’t anticipating it. I believe it was beneficial too, as many viewers seemed to enjoy that particular episode, yet might have wondered, ‘What happens next?’
This connection seems quite seamless to me, and I find it truly ingenious. Truth be told, I have always been captivated by this particular storyline, and I’ve often pondered about the fate of that world.
In my opinion, when we revisit this topic, it’s quite fascinating, and it seems like there’s a hint of confusion akin to ‘The Doctor is missing, but why doesn’t anyone hear me?’ Everything ties together quite nicely. I believe it’s essential to include this element in this episode without a doubt.
In other areas, Wish World welcomed back Bonnie Langford playing Melanie Bush and an unexpected reappearance of Jonathan Groff’s character Rogue. Moreover, it signaled the reemergence of the renowned antagonist, Omega.
Regarding whether we’ll encounter any recurring characters in the final episode, Gibson hinted: “Russell has an uncanny ability to include these Easter eggs… I can assure you that he’s connecting a lot of the Doctor’s past to the finale, which is always fascinating.
…”It seems some unfamiliar faces from the season are set to return, making it an exceptional ensemble. Working on this finale has been a real pleasure.
