Critics are highly praising Doctor Who’s season 15, with the series holding a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, an aggregator platform for movie and TV reviews.
In the recently released episodes, we’re introduced to the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, and his new associate, Belinda Chandra, portrayed by Varada Sethu. Preliminary hints imply that their connection may start off as challenging or confrontational.
From a dedicated cinematic enthusiast’s perspective, this new development significantly deviates from the heartwarming connection that I had been witnessing between the enigmatic character, the Doctor, and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson). Her eyes would sparkle with unbridled admiration and affection whenever the Time Lord was around.
Rotten Tomatoes searches the web for movie and TV series reviews, then calculates a rating by counting the number of favorable and unfavorable opinions. At this moment, Doctor Who’s season 15 has an entirely positive outlook with all reviews being fresh.
To clarify, I should mention that while the site gathers a vast amount of reviews, its categorization as either wholly positive or negative may be questionable for some users. This approach seems to overlook the more complex and nuanced opinions people often have about specific titles.
In a praiseworthy manner, Sci-Fi and Fantasy Editor Louise Griffin welcomes newcomer Sethu as a refreshing breeze and one of the most delightful aspects of the episode. Additionally, she points out that actor Gatwa immediately dives into the role with enthusiasm and is overflowing with energy in his recent exploits.
Yet, she noted that while the acting was impressive, the script penned by Russell T Davies fell somewhat short compared to it. She pointed out a “ridiculous twist” near the conclusion and certain “overtly obvious” dialogues among the flaws of the episode.
Despite this performance, Griffin continued to be optimistic about improved episodes in the future. He felt that The Robot Revolution had successfully established a new norm for the long-standing science fiction series.

As I embark on my review of the fifteenth season, creator Davies shares his ambition: “We’re aiming for bigger, brighter, and bolder than ever before.” While there are certainly some somber moments in this installment, expect a few daring twists to keep things exciting.
On this job, we continue to learn, grow fonder, and become even more enthralled. The production is getting better, funnier, and scarier with each passing day. There’s an abundance of energy, fear, excitement, and laughter in store for you. This series has grown larger than life, and we take immense pride in it.
Speaking about the enigmatic newcomer, he noted: “It seems quite challenging for her to make it through the initial adventure, but once she does, it becomes an extraordinary tale where the Doctor is unable to return her – specifically, to 7:30 am on May 24th, 2025.
The key factor behind this is a significant aspect that spans throughout the entire series. Despite knowing this, you can still watch each episode without any hindrance. It doesn’t affect your weekly enjoyment of the episodes as a standalone series. However, it remains puzzling why the Doctor isn’t able to get Belinda home.
Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. Season 15 premieres Saturday 12th April 2025.
