The jam-packed Doctor Who season finale drew an impressive audience on BBC One last night.
2.2 million viewers watched as Ncuti Gatwa bid farewell to the TARDIS, with an unexpected twist when the Doctor regenerated into a recognizable figure.
It’s important to mention that, besides watching at home, enthusiasts across the nation went to watch the episode in cinemas as well – however, these viewings won’t be included in the television ratings.
In simple terms, “The Reality War” ranked as the second highest-rated episode this season, based on initial viewership figures. We’ll find out the definitive ratings on Tuesday, 10th June.
The episode reached an astonishing end as Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor transformed into no one else but the famous Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper.
For the first time in Doctor Who history, Gatwa’s departure wasn’t preceded by an announcement from the BBC. At that point, his replacement had yet to be revealed as well.
It hasn’t yet been clearly confirmed if Piper is indeed the new Doctor; the credits merely say “Welcome Billie Piper,” but her appearance suggests that she might play the role of the Sixteenth Doctor.

Furthermore, Whovians didn’t have to wait long for more action, as the very first trailer for the spin-off series titled “The War Between the Land and the Sea” was unveiled immediately following the season 15 finale.
