According to showrunner Russell T Davies, there might be a temporary halt in airing new episodes of Doctor Who while they decide about the upcoming season.
As a devoted fan, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming episode premiering this very weekend! Ncuti Gatwa takes on the role of the Doctor, while Varada Sethu joins as the fresh face, Belinda Chandra. However, there’s been no update yet about the show’s continuation past this installment (though we do have “The War Between the Land and the Sea” spin-off to look forward to).
To Newsround, Davies explained, “It seems to me that The Doctor is similar to Robin Hood in a way.
Occasionally, there could be a brief intermission, and when that happens, the current viewers of Newsround may advance in age and begin crafting their own stories. Later on, they might return to share those tales with us.
I wholeheartedly believe it will endure, as I am its living testament. This is the fate of strong concepts; they never truly perish, but continue in some form or another.
It’s evident that Davies remains hopeful about the continuation of Doctor Who, considering its past resilience. However, there’s a chance fans could face a prolonged period without a potential new season.
Given that a decision about the upcoming season hasn’t been announced yet, it’s reasonable to anticipate a hiatus in airings for shows like Doctor Who, considering their extensive production periods.
It’s amusing since even those involved in the production assume our private discussions are actually clandestine meetings about it. Colleagues I interact with annually ask, “What’s truly going on?”, to which I respond, “Absolutely nothing! No secret meetings, just regular chit-chat.
The decision isn’t going to come from the people we work with at Disney+; instead, it will be made by someone high up in a corporate office. So for now, it looks like nothing is happening, no decision has been made.
The BBC also previously responded to a report suggesting that the show had been “shelved”.
A representative clarified: “Contrary to some reports, Doctor Who has not been cancelled. The fate of Season 3 will be determined only after Season 2 has aired.
Regarding Disney+, we’ve agreed upon 26 episodes, and right now, we are airing half of them. As for the remaining episodes and future storylines involving the Doctor, we don’t typically discuss those in advance.
This season, the Doctor embarks on a journey through the cosmos, aiming to return his latest traveling partner to their origin. However, his path doesn’t lead directly there; instead, he must navigate an indirect route.
