Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Doctor Who episode The Reality War.
Wrapping up its fifteen season run, Doctor Who delivers an astonishing surprise: Ncuti Gatwa‘s Fifteenth Doctor undergoes regeneration, unveiling none other than Billie Piper in the role!
In the final episode, titled The Reality War, the Doctor, Belinda Chandra (played by Varada Sethu) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) faced off against an ominous trio known as the “Unholy Trinity” – consisting of the Ranis (portrayed by Archie Panjabi and Anita Dobson), Conrad Clark (Jonah Hauer-King), and Omega. This confrontation was a fierce struggle for the very essence of reality.
For the very first time in “Doctor Who” history, Gatwa’s Doctor transformed at the conclusion of the episode, with neither his exit nor his replacement having been previously disclosed by the BBC prior to this event.
He is also the first actor who portrayed the Doctor since Christopher Eccleston to not last beyond two full seasons.
In dramatic moments, the Fifteenth Doctor spent his regeneration power to rescue Poppy, following her disappearance in the world that existed beyond the wish.
Beyond the ordinary, this series offered a peek into Piper, a beloved favorite of Rose Tyler, seizing control of the TARDIS – quite an extraordinary moment for me as a film enthusiast!

Although the credits didn’t specifically label Piper as ‘The Doctor’, but rather ‘Introducing Billie Piper’, it seems clear that she is stepping into the role once occupied by notable actors such as William Hartnell, Tom Baker, David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, and others, becoming part of the esteemed lineage portraying the legendary Time Lord character.
Now, fans are waiting for any news on the future of Doctor Who.
Russell T Davies previously said: “There’s no decision until after season 2.

It’s amusing, as those who work on the production often assume we’re holding clandestine discussions about the subject. My colleagues I see annually ask, “What’s actually going on?” to which I respond, “Absolutely nothing! There are no meetings happening, nothing at all.
After the thrilling ending of the last episode and the massive shock of the regeneration twist, it will take us some time to fully understand and digest everything that transpired!
Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Disney+ outside of the UK.
