As a dedicated Whovian who has been following Doctor Who since its humble beginnings, I can hardly contain my excitement for this year’s Christmas special! The reunion of Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat is like a dream come true, two brilliant minds that have shaped the course of the show coming together once more. Their love for Christmas is evident in the 15 festive specials they’ve written between them, and I can only imagine the magical story Joy to the World will weave.
Get ready for a delightful pre-Christmas surprise – television producers Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat have teamed up for an exclusive photoshoot with us at TopMob, just before the 2024 holiday season’s Doctor Who special airs.
This year’s special, titled “Joy to the World,” has been penned by former showrunner Moffat, who was brought on board by current showrunner Davies. Ncuti Gatwa plays the Fifteenth Doctor in this production, while Nicola Coughlan takes on a new role named Joy.
As a history enthusiast, I can’t help but get swept up in the idea of a hotel chain offering time-traveling experiences! It’s an exciting prospect to step into the past and stay in eras long gone. Yet, there’s a looming threat that jeopardizes all of human history. As we eagerly anticipate our journeys through time, let’s keep a watchful eye on this danger to ensure our shared past remains safe and intact.
Gathering for our upcoming holiday photo session, expertly captured by Massimiliano Giorgeschi, with styling assistance from Lucie Pemerberton, Davies and Moffat (both known for their love of the holidays, evident in the 15 festive specials they’ve written together), enjoyed a cozy gathering around a fireplace to adorn a Christmas tree together.
Absolutely, the event featured several distinctive Doctor Who items (thanks to Propped Up) as well as holiday decorations (thanks to The Who Shop). Can you find them in the gallery down below?

This year, according to Moffat, the Doctor will finally reveal the answer to the question you’ve been curious about since you were young, which he shared with TopMob. The resolution to this long-standing enigma isn’t just significant for the Doctor Who universe, but for the universe in general. Tune in on Christmas Day!

Additionally, the story will transport us not only to our current time but also to Everest Base Camp in the 1950s, the Orient Express, the era of the Second World War, the year 4202, and ancient times as well.
By the way, it seems we’ll be encountering our longtime adversary, the corporation Villengard, soon enough.
As always, watch this space (and time!).
