Doctor Who spin-off The War Between the Land and the Sea releases epic teaser

As a cinephile delving into the vast expanse of the Whoniverse, I must say that “The War Between the Land and the Sea” marks a significant return to original content in the Doctor Who spin-off realm since 2016’s series, Class, departed our screens. This time around, we find ourselves immersed in the captivating performances of Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

The teaser introduces the latest additions to their character roster, concurrently providing updated appearances for the UNIT team members – Jemma Redgrave as Kate, Ruth Madeley as Shirley, and Alexander Devrient as Colonel Ibrahim, who reappear after the events of The Reality War.

In a five-part narrative penned by Doctor Who’s showrunner Russell T Davies and Pete McTighe (writer of Lucky Day), the Sea Devils are revived from their slumber. Shocked by the condition of Earth’s oceans, they initiate a conflict with those residing on land.

Davis hints that the conflict could be extraordinary in magnitude, whereas the official summary for the series suggests a global predicament involving potential danger to everyone.

Previously, Tovey remarked that the series contains “everything a Doctor Who fan would love,” yet it also seems “entirely new” and “as if it were an independent film.

Additionally, beyond Tales of the TARDIS and Class, other Doctor Who spin-offs that have been crafted include Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, both of these series being devised by Davies.
