In the final episode of season 15, Ncuti Gatwa appears in his last scene as The Doctor following two seasons on the series. As a surprising twist, Gatwa’s character undergoes regeneration and transforms into Billie Piper, a beloved companion from the show. Piper initially appeared on the program during its grand comeback in 2005, portraying Rose Tyler. Tyler served as both Christopher Eccleston’s and David Tennant’s companions, and now she returns to the series, this time taking on the role of The Doctor herself.

This decision isn’t easy, and I know I’ll miss it dearly, but I’ll forever be thankful for this opportunity and everyone who made my journey as the Doctor an adventure I’ll never forget.

Concerning Piper’s comeback, Davies hinted that there are still several questions about her return that require answers. “Back in 2005, Billie revolutionized television, and she’s managed it again! It’s a delight and a laugh to have her back in the TARDIS, but exactly when, why, and with whom is a tale yet to be shared,” Davies stated. “After 62 years, the Doctor’s journeys are just getting started!

For Piper, going back to the show feels like a cherished dream realized. “There’s no denying my affection for this series, and I’ve often expressed my desire to rejoin the Whoniverse because it holds some of my most treasured moments,” Piper explained. “The chance to step onto that TARDIS once more was too tempting to resist, yet the specifics of who, how, why, and when will have to remain a mystery for now.

Regarding the upcoming season, there’s still a lot of doubt hanging over it. However, they seem to have a strategy worked out, which is generating excitement, so let’s hope for an official announcement about the season and Piper playing the main character soon.
