Doctor Who unveils new Christmas special teaser for Children in Need

As a lifelong Whovian who has witnessed the regeneration of Time Lords more times than I can count, I must say that the latest teaser for the Doctor Who 2024 Christmas special has me absolutely thrilled! The prospect of Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor teaming up with Nicola Coughlan’s character, Joy, in a story penned by none other than Steven Moffat is nothing short of exhilarating.

The BBC has released a new teaser for the Doctor Who 2024 Christmas special for Children in Need!

Fresh scenes from the unique episode written by Steven Moffat, entitled “Joy to the World,” depict Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor working alongside Nicola Coughlan’s character named Joy.

The clip opens with the Doctor lamenting how even evil needs PR and a logo; when scanning a briefcase, he finds that it’s made by Villengard, an arms manufacturer fans will recall has cropped up in the Whoniverse before (The Doctor Dances and Twice Upon a Time).

In the course of conversation about their identity, a helpful Q&A interface emerges to address any inquiries they may have concerning the company. This is then succeeded by an image of a Silurian as an avatar.

As the Doctor and Joy fall towards the beast, the clip ends, teasing more to come.

In the upcoming special episode, Ncuti Gatwa reprises his role as the Fifteenth Doctor, while Nicola Coughlan makes her first appearance in Doctor Who, portraying a character called Joy.

Previously, we’ve had a sneak peek with a teaser trailer, as well as certain cast members unveiled. Among them is an actor from the Sherlock series, who will portray a character from the Silurian race.

However, it’s been recently disclosed that Moffatt (previously in charge of Doctor Who) has shared some crucial storyline aspects.

As I chat with BBC South East News, let me share a tantalizing tidbit about our upcoming Christmas special. Picture this: in the distant, distant future, envision a global hotel conglomerate seizing upon the concept of time travel!

Given the chance, a hotel chain might recognize that they could capitalize on selling all the unbooked nights across their properties throughout history.

Additionally, Moffat mentioned that Russell T Davies asked him to pen the Christmas special because he ran short on time and had to begin working on Doctor Who’s fifteenth season.

Moffat clarified: “To be honest, I genuinely enjoy working on Doctor Who’s Christmas specials as I have an immense fondness for the holiday season and Christmas itself.

Later, an email arrived with the message: “Steven, it seems I won’t be able to finish the Christmas script. Can you step in and start work on series 2 instead?” In essence, he was asking Steven to write a new script for series 2, rather than completing his current one.
