Doctor Who Will Return to BBC Regardless of Disney’s Exit

Caught up in the chatter about where Doctor Who is heading next, I’ve learned that the science fiction saga will persist on BBC, irrespective of any changes with Disney.

After whispers about Disney possibly ending their collaboration on the show because of dwindling viewership numbers, the joint production between the two television titans could be concluded.

As reported by The Mirror, the showrunner Russell T Davies has already mapped out the next two seasons. Drafts for season 16 are almost finalized, while ideas for the 17th season have been prepared as well.

A trustworthy insider informed the media outlet that Disney pulling funds might not cause as significant a concern among fans as they anticipate, since a considerable portion of the additional spending is allocated towards enhancing the image resolution and special visual effects.

While the ongoing 15th season is keeping fans engaged in conversation, its creator Chris Chibnall (also known as Davies) has hinted at a potential break in the Doctor Who broadcasting schedule, causing viewers to ponder over the series’ future prospects.

In my conversation with Newsround, I shared that the Doctor has become something akin to Robin Hood in the public’s eye. There might be moments when silence falls, but I believe that in the future, as Newsround viewers grow older and gain more experiences, they will return with captivating stories inspired by this character.

I completely believe it will endure, as I serve as evidence of its longevivity, and such is the fate of great ideas – they never truly perish but continue in some form or another.

Back in February, the BBC responded to speculation about rumours of Doctor Who being shelved.

At that point, a representative clarified: “The tale in question is inaccurate. Contrary to some reports, Doctor Who has not been discontinued. The fate of season 3 will only be determined once season 2 has been broadcast.

Currently, only half (13 episodes) of our agreement with Disney+ has been aired, leaving 13 more episodes to be released. Regarding the Doctor’s future stories, we never discuss those topics.

It’s amusing how some folks working on the production assume our casual conversations are actually covert gatherings regarding the subject. My colleagues I see annually often ask, “What’s the real deal?”, to which I reply, “There isn’t one! No meetings, just regular chats.

The decision, regardless of who it will be made by, which isn’t our colleagues at Disney+ but rather an individual in some distant office, is still pending. Essentially, there’s been no progress or decision made as of yet.

The TV show, Doctor Who, will continue its run next Saturday, specifically on the 24th of May. In the United Kingdom, fresh episodes will be accessible from 8 o’clock in the morning on Saturdays via BBC iPlayer. Later in the day, these episodes will air on BBC One. For viewers outside of the UK, the series can be found on Disney+.
