As a long-time Whovian who has witnessed the regenerations of countless Doctors and the evolution of the TARDIS, I am utterly thrilled to learn that Anita Dobson will continue her enigmatic portrayal of Mrs Flood in Doctor Who’s upcoming season 15. The tantalizing hints about further twists and turns have piqued my curiosity, leaving me eagerly anticipating the unraveling of this intriguing character’s past.
In the upcoming season 15, she is the enigmatic figure whose background we’ll delve deeper into, and it has been hinted by Anita Dobson that the character of Mrs Flood in Doctor Who will experience more unexpected turns of events.
At Film and Comic Con Cardiff over the weekend, Dobson shared that by the end of the upcoming series, viewers will be fully informed about Mrs. Flood’s background.
She went on: “Even at the end of the next series… there’s a line that she says, and I thought, ‘That’s a little bit odd for her to say that at this point.’
At that moment, she continues to surprise you with unexpected twists and turns, leaving you guessing. You may have an idea of who she is, but there are always hidden aspects about her that remain unknown. She seems to keep some secrets close to her chest.
“You never quite know where she’s going. It’s nice to create a bit of mystery.”
As a devoted Whovian myself, I’m just as puzzled as everyone else about the true identity of Ruby Sunday’s enigmatic neighbor following the conclusion of season 14. Her unique talent of shattering the conventional boundaries of television by gazing directly into our very souls only adds to the mystery.
As a cinephile, I can confidently affirm that the upcoming season promises to shed light on our protagonist’s true persona, a fact hinted at by actress Dobson herself in her recent interviews.
However, earlier on, showrunner Russell T Davies assured SFX magazine (through GamesRadar) that “Next year, you can expect satisfying answers to those questions, along with effective solutions.
Given that she’s sporting white fur, it seems like people might assume she’s the Time Lord companion Romana, wouldn’t they?
“I promise you answers to that. Again, that’s gonna be next year.
“We absolutely loved this story, it brought us so much pleasure and excitement! Anita Dobson, you’ve got me giggling non-stop! I can’t wait to see what more wonderful tales she has in store for us. Simply brilliant!
In the upcoming Season 15 of the series, you can expect to see even more of Mrs. Flood, as the actress shared in a recent interview with Doctor Who Magazine: “Russell T Davies asked me to visit his office. It felt intimidating, similar to meeting the headmaster. However, I nervously walked in and he was very cordial. He shared some exciting news about my character.
He asked me to return, and I replied with enthusiasm. When he asked if I would stay this time, I confirmed without hesitation. After that, he shared some spoilers about Mrs. Flood’s activities in season 2.
She noted: “It’s essential to grasp the character’s mental state. What causes Mrs. Flood to act as she does? There should be a motive behind her actions. Most people don’t change suddenly without some underlying cause, even if it seems so. Uncovering that catalyst can be intriguing.
The beloved Doctor will make a comeback on both BBC iPlayer and BBC One this festive season. Meanwhile, you can catch up on past episodes streaming on BBC iPlayer.
