Doctor Who’s Next Season May Be Scariest Yet (and Coming Sooner Than You Think)

As a long-time Whovian with a soft spot for British television, I must say that this upcoming season of Doctor Who leaves me positively giddy with anticipation! Russell T Davies has always had a knack for crafting captivating tales, and the tease of “sooner than you think” has my excitement levels soaring. If it’s anything like the Christmas Special airing on December 25th, I’m in for a treat!

Fans of “Doctor Who” have much to anticipate in its upcoming season, with a mix of frights and an unsuspected journey to Miami. The holiday period will feature the traditional “Doctor Who” Christmas Special to satisfy fans craving more of their favorite show. In 2025, we’ll delve into Season 2 of Ncuti Gatwa’s reign as the Fifteenth Doctor, and for those curious about what lies ahead, showrunner Russell T Davies offers a sneak peek at all the thrilling journeys that the Doctor and his companions will embark on.

Russell T Davies hinted on BBC’s The One Show that a sensational, terrifying event is imminent, and he emphasized that it will arrive sooner than expected. While the specifics of what he referred to are not yet clear, fans of Doctor Who might be anticipating the new season as early as late 2024 or even early 2025, possibly not long after the Christmas Special airs on December 25th, 2023.

Doctor Who adds Rose Ayling-Ellis MBE for Season 2

It’s thrilling to share that Rose Ayling-Ellis MBE has been added to the cast of Doctor Who alongside Ncuti Gatwa for its upcoming season. Recently honored with an MBE for her dedicated work in the deaf community, she made history as the first live sport presenter at the Paralympic Games who is deaf. Her acting resume boasts roles in productions like BBC’s Ludwig, EastEnders, and Strictly Come Dancing, where she triumphed as champion in 2021. Additionally, she won the BAFTA TV Award for Must-See Moment in 2022.

Steven Moffat often aims for visiting actors on Doctor Who to enjoy their time, but Rose Tyler takes this to a completely different dimension. She bursts onto the scene delivering a remarkable performance that encapsulates fear, rage, and courage, making one of our scariest episodes yet.

As a child, I was enamored with “Doctor Who.” So, being chosen to be part of that very show was a long-held dream realized. My inner kid is bursting with joy! Working alongside Russell, and filming with the exceptional cast and crew has been an unforgettable journey. Ncuti is a fantastic Doctor, and I can hardly wait for viewers to witness our collaborative efforts.

The Christmas Special of “Doctor Who,” titled “Joy to the World,” will be aired on December 25th at 9:10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) or 12:10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), exclusively on Disney+. Starting in 2025, new seasons of “Doctor Who” will debut on Disney+ (where available) and on BBC iPlayer in the U.K.
